Tyre choice for Toyota hilux 2.7

Post by Godfather »

Dear member

I need to change my tyres on my Toyota Hilux 2.7 RSX.
At present i have GY wranglers 255/70/15 on my car. ( I look like a pick up truck and wet weather is like ice skating)
I need to change my tyres for something that will work on the normal rd and when i go 4x4 make the inexperienced driver look experienced ) :)

I would like something that looks aggressive ( coopers STT ).
Any other types of tyres that are recommended. Goodrich? I see a lot of Goodrich all terrain.

If i get mud slugs how bad is the noise level when driving?
How big can i go? 31inch is that max before i start to change wheel arches and moving my axle?
What size of tyre is recommended

Any advice on tyres would be much appreciated.
Value for money is also important.

Regards

Gfather

What is your budget for tyres?

I have a set of Bridgestone Dulers 694 AT as "road tyres" (30x9.5x15) and Cooper ST (31x10.5x15) for off road tyres. The duelers are awesome on road and not bad for sand driving. The Coopers are good on road and does not handle badly in the wet on tar. Steve can comment on this he has the same setup. One comment on the ST's is that they are noisy on road so I suspect that the STT'S will be even noisier.

The 31 inch clears nicely on my 04 DC KZ that still has the standard suspension.
Have a look at the shopping index for contacts in CT. Chat to Steve Fourie as well (he is on the forum).

I have Cooper S/T on my van.
At first they were noisy, but once used to it, the noise don't bother me anymore.

As for wet conditions. I've tested them, and honestly they are not that good under hard braking, but if you drive normally and are cautious, I don't foresee any problems.

Niel, I also have 31" ST. I hear them at about 60 tot 80Km/h but over 100Km/h I do not hear them. The mistake people make is to take a vehicle with these tyres for a test drive. Run around the block and hear the tyres. If you really wanna test them, take it on a long stretch where you can go faster than 100km/h.

Riaan, I disagree on it being slippery, so far I have not locked it once when braking hard.

O.k O.k, stenig my

So hiermee verander ek amptelik my siening oor die ST's in die nat.

Maar klou hou vir jou op grondpad. Uitstekend volgens my.

Dankie Piet
