Steel rims

Post by bfgjohno »

Hi folks

I have just arrived in Kenya and have a 2010 Hilux Doublecab 3.0 D4D (i know this is the Fortuner forum - read on!)

I am keen to fit 16 inch steel rims rather than the original 17 inch alloys. Easier to knock back into shape in the bush.

I have heard that there are 16 inch Toyota steel rims that fit the new shape Fortuner that also fit my Hilux (apparently has "large" front calipers(?))

Can anyone help with info or part numbers?

Thankyou so much

All the best

John

Hi John, the rim commonly found on the SFA and IFS 6 hole will fit on your Fortuner, however they are 15' and not 16', but I recon it is easier finding a 15' tire than a 16'.

They look like so and are 15' 8j or 8jj

I agree that the 15" is a better option IRO availability of both rim and rubber. Even the cost of the rubber is more favourable with the more popular 15" but they might not fit if the callipers are too big.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the very fast reply. My vehicle is a 2010 Hilux 3.o d4d rather than a fortuner. So I was looking at Fortuner wheels. The major constraint on choice of rims is that I have bought 16" tyres! (Don't ask) Not getting 16" rims is going to get expensive!

Cheers

All the Fortuner rims are aluminium, 16's on earlier models and 17's on 2010/11.

The rims on the D/C and Fortuner are the same pcd, so interchangable.

Some earlier D4D DC models had steel rims but I think they were all 15'

The 2010 SRX Hilux comes with 16'' steel rims.

BUT only 6J - even though the broshure says 7J !!

Toyota sells it for R1 375 per rim.

Hi John

I have fitted 16 inch wheels with 265/75/16 on my 2010 Hilux. When I bought it, it had 15inch wheels on.

Hi Frikkie,

Those are the tyres I've purchased. What rims did you put on? Toyota OE ones or aftermarket steel modulars? Any problems with those front calipers (my vehicle is the UK Invincible)? Any part numbers if the rims were Toyota?

Cheers

John,

My understanding is that Nissan Patrol 16" Steel rims fit, they have the same hole pattern, however you would need to check the backspacing and brake clearance. These may be easier to find here in Kenya.

I've been given this part no: 42611 0KA80. It's a 16x6J steel rim. Will that carry a BF Goodrich AT 265/75R16?

Frikkie, is that what your wheel part number is?
