Hi
On Friday I suddenly noticed that my air bag light stays on in the instrument panel. It normally goes off as soon as the car is started. I have a 2006 4.0V6 4x4 and my instruction manual says take it straight to the dealer
Does anyone know why it would stay on and if there is an easier cure than a trip to the dealer? I still have a few thousand km before the next service and I don't take it to the Toyota workshop.
Thanks
Air bag light stays on

Maybe check underneath the front seats if the seatbelt stalk plugs are still plugged in. Sometimes the can get knocked loose while vacuuming.

Another problem could be the "clock spring" behind the steering wheel.

I had the same problem…turned out to be the slip ring behind the steering wheel…Had to replace it and then heard that it was a common problem...

yip, its a common problem. Had the issue on my hilux and tuna.Blackadder wrote:I had the same problem…turned out to be the slip ring behind the steering wheel…Had to replace it and then heard that it was a common problem...
the part is around R1400. try to twist the dealerships arm coz its a common fault. see if TSA will cover part of the cost.
also, check that the plug behind the cubby is not loose. That could also cause it.

Re: Air bag light stays on
Ok will do, thanks for the suggestions....one question though is it just the warning light that malfunctions or can it affect the air bag deploying?

Re: Air bag light stays on
If the clock spring is damage the air bag won't be able to deploy if needed.
I managed to damage my bakkie's clock spring while the steering column was disconnected... quoted R 1200 by Toyota for the part.
Going to sort it out tomorrow.

I had to replace the spring thing on 160 000 km, also around R1500. 2006 Hilux.
