Pandemonium in the Panamints... The Saga of a 4Runner V6

Post by Family_Dog »

I found this an excellent read and Mark's detailed exp[lanation and pictures call for a most interesting read. Pity about his botched V6 engine repair tho', should probably have settled for 4Y reliability instead (or maybe have let Hoppy service his truck!) 8 )

Grab a cuppa coffee, or if in the Cape, a glass of red, and enjoy the story...

Yep, and without his radio, where would he now be? A fond memory...

Nope we had the 22R (carb version) in our last few models om SFA hiluxes, from about 94/95 somewhere up to the last few that was sold as a limited edition in 98. The only Surfs and 4Runners we have is imported vehicles AFAIK it was never sold here.

Over here the 4Y is much more popular then the 22R due to the fact that we have 1000s of them going around in Minibus taxi's (local transport for the masses) thus spares are a plenty even at after market parts suppliers, and you can nowadays even buy brand new chinese/korean pirate engines complete fairly cheap.

With the 22R on the other hand it was only used in the Hilux and Cressida for a few years and parts are scares and not even Toyota dealers have stock, for instance if you want to buy new plug leads from the dealers you do not get original Toy parts anymore they too sell you inferior after market Bougi cords which is noticeably lacking in quality on physical inspection even. :(
