Hilux Coiler

Post by cprinsloo »

Hi all,

Attached a few pics of a Hilux Coiler (coils all round). The ride and articulation must be awesome. But I also think it can be very dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

Anybody else ever contemplated doing something like this? (I know I have).

In any case, I cannot remember exactly who'se is it, maybe the person has already joined the forum, in that case apologies for posting without permission.

IIRC it's a Prado chassis and engine with the body transplanted.

Cheers,

Chris

Yep, but that is designed to be so from the beginning! This appears to be a conversion.

Hi guys,

"But a Prado has IFS". Yep, silly me. It had something to do with a Prado, maybe the engine. Cannot remember correctly, brain busy calcifying!!

Still wondering what such a conversion will entail.

Cheers,

How close would revolver shackles come to the artriculation of coils?

Hi all,

I think the Hilux with conventional suspension will outperform some coilers, I was thinking more in the line of a comfortable ride!! Not too much wrong with the SFA's articulation.

I think in most cases coils on a solid axle provide better artriculation and a better ride than leaf springs which in turn provide a better load rating.

But now how about leaf springs with revolver shackles? How much does that improve artriculation? Does anyone have any experience with these shackles?

Cheers

Simon Morris (SYRON CONVERSIONS) has revolver shackles in his Lux, but I do have to agree with Chris with the right leave setup you can twist way better with leaves then coils. If you have time, go and browse some of the US sites like Pirate4x4 and see how much articulation some guys get out of leaves, your mouth will hang open
