Spot lights again

Post by Hiluxbakkie »

Hi

Have a stupid question! I am looking for wiring diagram which bypass my highbeams?
I do not want my spots connected to my highbeams?
It is messing up my high/low beam switch(when I switch from low beam to high beam their is 2/3 second delay!
What is the pro and cons?
Would rather use 2 switches to switch on my spots?(4spots on roof and 2 front of bullbar)
I see all diagrams include the main lights, maybe my wiring faulty?

If your spotlights are connected to your headlight wiring directly you are heading for disaster. It is supposed to be connected via a relay which in turn gets switched by the headlight wiring.

Hi Casper,

I have 4 x KC's on my roof, independently wired with a relay an inline fuse and a seperate switch in cab. My 2 x KC's on my bullbar are connected to my high beam, however as Cassie states they are independtly wired with inline fuse and only work with the seperate switch in cab switched on. I.e if this is on and I use high beam then they dont come on. Likewise with my 2 x foglights also independtly run and seperate switch in cab. So basically I have 3 switches in the cab controlling my lights.

I have burnt out covers on my KC's by leaving them switched on by mistake and then using my high beam but the covers were still on, imagine 2 x 100 w bulbs burning away with nowhere to go !!!

cheers

Casper, ek het ook daai 3sec delay gehad. Sit elke spotlight op sy eie reley en maak jou drade dukker. dit het my delay probleem op gelos.

On the wiring diagram, all that changes then is no wiring to the headlamps? rest stay the same then?

Yip, you'll have a toggle switch switching the relay... but that is illegal..

Casper, I'm not sure if this will help. In total I have 8 spots :shock2: , 2 on the bullbar (own relay switched via the high beam). The other 6 are on the roof, each set with its own relay. These are also switched via the high beam also, but with a switch in series in the cab, for when I do not need them, or need them.
These have covers on and I use them off-road only as much as possible.

That way they are legal.. Well actually not, because any spots above the level of the headlights is illegal... but at least the switching is legal..

Guys, I'm also looking to wire up some spots on an independent switch (not connected to my current lights). Just wanted to confirm that I can still use the 4-pole relay, and wire exactly per the wiring diagram here (http://www.hilux4x4.co.za/wire_spotlights/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) but i do not connect anything to pin86. Will this work? If I change my mind later I can then simply connect the high beam wiring to pin86? :eh:

You have to put 12v+ on Pin86 otherwise the relay wont kick in. Put it on a 12v+ wire that is on when ACC is switched on, that way the spotlights go off when you take out the key. Otherwise straight to the 12+ of the battery.

Ok, I thought it would get power on pin30. So 12V+ to both pin86 & pin30 then?

Yip.. Pin85 and Pin86 switches the relay. The current flowing thru there charges a little electromagnet, which then closes the points (switch) on Pin87 and Pin30.

Thanks. Makes sense. This way I can switch the circuit on the + (ACC) as well as the - (in line switch) :D:
