Some changes to my DC

Hey guys/ gals

Just a few minor changes that i did over the long weekend......

Fitted new 2 tone shell horns just behind the grill on the left of the vehicle where the original is found..... Now i can scare the taxies too.... :twisted:

Replaced and rewired the rear tail lights and trailer plug. Still need to replace the number plate... :cool:
I had to remove the rear tow bar to get to the trailer wiring easier, when i fitted it i decided to uese different mounting holes that are standard on this type of tow bar and now it is flush with the rear of the vehicle giving me a better departure angle and it wont hinder the shackles at all But I had to cut the exhaust shorter and will get that done properly.. :thumbup:

Replaced and rewired the front spot lights onto a seperate switch so i can use them without having to put on the main lights that will work as soon as the ignition is switched on..... :D:

Fitted 2 fuse boxes to take 4 fuses, these are going to be removed and used in the load bin when I need them as i found a fuse box that takes 12 fuses so I fitted a spare fuse box to take 12 fuses, this will be used for all accessories, I used a 8mm power wire from the battery to the fuse box, soldered it to all the pins on the one side and then sealed it in silicon, now all i need to do is add the wire for an accessory and plug in a fuse to give it power.... :wink2:

Replaces some old relay switches as the old ones were not working correctly... :thumbup:

Fitted 5 spare switches 1 of which i connected my spots to..... :D: see pic... :thumbup:

Fitted some canvas seat covers..... :D:
The problem with the SFA D/C is the rear seats dont have head rests so i rolled up some of SWAMBO's spare batting that she uses to make cushions and stuffed it into the seat covers to form to soft pillow like head rests..... :D: :D:

The best of all was i only needed to buy the 12 holder fuse box and the rear seat cover, I had a new set of seat covers not used yet and the rest was all new stuff i got months ago..... :D: :D:

I also have a fuse box there in the engine compartment and it works well. Need to upgrade mine to have fuses.

Just one thought though. Maybe add an inline fuse (100Amp NL fuse) right next to the battery. Should one of those terminals come loose (solder can brake due to vibration) you are going to become a sparky.

Like the idea of the towbar being moved forward. the new taillights also looks heaps better.

When you start working on removing the sticker residue, you can use tar remover.... works like a charm.

Lastly... that potato you use to take fodies needs a new lense... :twisted:

Well put some fuses in yours and then see if it still works... :mocking: :mocking:

I forgot to mention the interior light changed to LED and its much better you can see nicely at night..... :thumbup: :thumbup:

On that note of an inline 100Amp Fuse and fuse holders. Where can I get those. Tried AutoZone, Voltex, Zenny Electrical, but now one seems to keep such a big one available?

Johnno,If you want to see a huge difference,replace that interioir light with a 15 led light one.I also replace my cluster bulbs with led bulbs.

Stem saam met Cassie,Dit is baie maklik.Dak liggie het my nie eers 5 minute geneem nie.Om die cluster bulbs te vervang het ek my cluster uit gehaal.Maar ek glo as jy klein hande het sal jy die bulbs kan vrvang sonder om die cluster uit te haal.

Do you really need such a heavy fuse? What size cable is being used? Remember that the main function of a fuse is to protect the cable after it. If that cable is only rated at say 50A you should only fit a 40A fuse as an example. If the fuse rating is too high and there's a problem or too much draw, the cable will heat up, melt the insulation and possibly cause a fire.

This is the supply line to two banks of 6 fuses. The reason for the fuse is the supply line will be thick and if that makes a dead short to the body... eish

Andy, the reason I want a 100amp fuse is that it will be for a dual battery setup, but read last night that when you have a winch, you can't put in a fuse as the winch draws too much current, so I got 25sq.mm cable instead of the 16sq.mm

What also works like a charm to remove sticker residue is Woodoc furniture oil.

I would suggest at least 16mm if you are going to run them all on the one wire.

Too my knowledge, more or less 74A for the 8mm and 120A for the 16mm

:think: :think: :think: According to the American Wire Guide the 8mm SHOULD (like i say SHOULD) handle 12v 150Amps.........

BUT

Ill see if i can increase the wire size..... Allthough i will mainly be running the relays switches from it sooooo it should be fine..... only the HID lights pluged into the fuse box too but they were on 3mm wire orriginaly.... :think: :think:

I did see your link and 8mm on that table is 8mm in diameter and not area as the norm. If we talk about 16mm we are refering to 16mm2 which equates to about 4.5mm diameter and as per your table works out to 118Amps :acute: :acute: :acute:

If the diameter of the wire (the copper part) is at least 4.5mm you should be fine. What is in your favour is you are not going to draw 100Amps full time (your alternator can't cope with that). If you add 13 100w spots and switch them all at the same time...you will be pushing it
