Suspension Upgrade & Rear Axle Problems

Post by kaikai »

Hi All,

I have Hilux LN106 have to replace the all the leaf springs and shocks, my question is did Dobinsons's leaf springs is a good brand and ? The shocks they were recommend me to use Koni adjustable.

Any of u can give me some ideas on it? THANKS!!!!!

By the way, I got problem also with my rear axle. Knocking noise can be listen when clutch release (normally 2nd to 5th ratio). All the bearing was replaced but the noise still persist plus now i can feel vibration on 4th gear ratio speed about 60-80km/h. This made me headache..Haiyyy....

Hi Chong

Difficult to say, not sure what you have available there, what about Old Man Emu?

HI Chong,

Dobinsons is not too bad, but Old Man Emu is a lot better in my opinion. Dobinsons is also produced in Australia and fairly popular over there but it's quite a bit stiffer than OME .... this gives a harder ride and a little less flexibility. Dobinson's should also give you about 100mm suspension lift, very much the same as with OME. I have had both and prefer OME.

The noise you refer to is more than likely a universal or centre carrier bearing on the rear prop-shaft. If any of the universals is worn you will get that slap in the shaft and vibrations at certain speeds. Have the shaft reconditioned and balanced.

Hope this helps.
