Re: Hilux Rebuild
Yes it will reduce performance. But every bend reduce air intake, ie it makes the actual piping longer as it is, this where you loose more power.
Why do you turn the cover with throttle body 180 degrees, then you reduce the length of the piping.

Louis, I do loose a little bit of power, but I'm willing to compromise that instead of getting dirt/water into the engine.
Also the engine is so much quieter without the cone filter!

Re: Hilux Rebuild
Dis mooi so.

Does anyone have a lexus autobox to Hilux 4Y 2.2 transfercase adapter lying around gathering dust ? or know of a place that sells them for a reasonable price (Not R4500-00 ) That is a bit steep for me at the moment.

Re: Hilux Rebuild
I understand what mean by turning the whole intake around Louis, but will there be space for the Idle Controll valve to be facing to the rear, it is somewhat of a touch and go situation with the intake facing the right way round. What would one do about the breather pipe that is situated at the bottom of the throttle body. Has any one checked the performance impact of different intake systems.
I thought of taking my donaldson filter to a master welder here in town to convert all the pipes to 76mm. Would that have less of an impact on performance with the long piping than having long piping plus smaller diameter donaldson setup?

Re: Hilux Rebuild
striker,
that is a very neat set up,but iiwy - change the top rad hose!
i has got to have a longer pipe in a "S" form to allow for movement of the motor.
otherwise it is going to crack the radiator side over time!

Hi, no I already have the cast bellhousing for the manual gearbox. I need the adapter between the automatic transmission and the original 4y Transfer case. Converting from manual to auto.

Thanks guys. Spoke to Mark this morning. Gave the go ahead for all the goodies. He says it will take about 2 weeks for the adapter to be completed. So hopefully the Lux will be roaming the roads again in 3 weeks!

Re: Hilux Rebuild
hi Robert
Pity you going the auto route, I did get my bellhousing from Fana. His are dead straight and no problems with my setup. Made my own up for the 2.5TDI once upon a time and it used to slip out of 4th due to it not being exactly in line.
Alternatively you could have used a lexus bellhousing with the adaptor plate to the hilux box, with a concentric release bearing setup. clutch is very light on the foot.
What ECU are you using now that you going auto?
regrds

Re: Hilux Rebuild
Hey, yes got the gearbox and adapter on Saturday morning. Still waiting for the shifter, tcu and cooler which Mark Wil be sending on Monday hopefully!
Got the box fitted today, my gosh that box and the adapter is a lot heavier than the manual. Almost gave up!
Made up a bracket for the transfer case to fit on the cross member. Will get the propshafts sorted tomorrow. Need about 30mm shortened at the back and lengthened in the front.
Think by Wednesday I will be able to take it for a test drive.

Re: Hilux Rebuild
After a extreme amount of time, tears, cursing, suicidal thoughts and effort the rebuild is slowly creeping to an end. A few more little issues to sort out but the biggest hurdles have been overcome.

Looking very nice Robert, will be really interested to know what kind of consumption figures you will be getting. AM Racing(Dylan) here has a similar conversion and that V8 sounds GREAT... it also has loads of Power.

Re: Hilux Rebuild
I drove from nelspruit to Lydenburg this morning and some some town driving 140km total. Only put in 36 liters this morning and the tank is still half, was empty before I filled it. Quick calculation will put the consumption between 6 and 8. Will fill on Friday as I need to have it dynod in Witbank. Will have an accurate measurement then.

Re: Hilux Rebuild
Fuel Consumption update: From nelspruit to Jhb I got 4 km to the litre, this was due to the gearbox that was stuffing around, had no second gear at all so you can imagine it was a bit of a nightmare! Thanks to Mark Watson, the problem was solved early Saturday morning at his Workshop in Springs. Thanks Mark!
On the way back I stopped over at CC Dyno for a tune up, Men did some adjustments for me, and what a difference it has made, avg 120 on the highway and she gave 7.5km/l. Wasn't bargaining on much more so I am happy with that figure.
Just to put out there guys, Mark is a hell of a guy. Always willing to sort your problems out without any hassles! Thanks Matk
