At last, my Hilux gets some character
Hi guys
I have had my Hilux for a couple of months now, but with the hectic schedule at work (ja, we actually work here in the office) I have not had time to come and show it off yet. The story of the Lux is as such:
Hoppy knows a guy who was in an accident. A truck drove into the rear of the bakkie and wrote off the load bin. The insurance also wanted to write it off, so Hoppy bought it from him, replaced the load bin with one he had lying around and sold it to me for a bargain (thanks Hoppy!). But not before he took out the modified diesel engine and replaced it with a standard 4Y!
So that is where my bakkie's name comes from: Igor - that is a kind of creature that is made up of the parts of other creatures.
First I got a tranny cover and dash cover from 4x4direct (where else) and I took it out for a weekend to Boegoeberg where I soon found out that the fact that there is no weight on the back and also suspension as stiff as the upper lip of a nun in a brothel does not make for good off-roading. Fortunately I had some recovery hooks installed before that weekend because I needed a little help due to my lacking suspension flex and absence off lockers. But that is how we learn, is it not? Now I know that I need to do something about the suspension (Hoppy said he'll help me) and I have already traded the 30R15 wheels with Dunlop pad-tyres for bigger, 32R16 wheels with Bridgestone Dueler AT's on (these tyres are not new, but at least they are better.)
So over December I had some time and Gysie let me build some skaap tralies for the bakkie in his workshop. The idea is actually to have a frame for a canvas canopy. And that is exactly what I got.
The advantage is that I can now take the canvas off whenever I am not using the canopy and still cart my dogs, rubbish or whatever around with the bakkie.

Looks great and congrats. The cage will also give you a little weight. If you upgrade the suspension, don't go too light, as you will want to load it when you go touring

Jou bakkie het "stone/mudgards" nodig.Maak sommer vir jou uit conveyer belt.Dit is baie goedkoper.

Looking good!
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!
