Rear extended Shackles
Hi Guys
I fitted OME springs in the front of my lux a while back and have been very happy.
except now it's a fair bit higher in the front. (still have origional springs in back)
would you guys go the extended shackle route, or does it make it a bit loose on the road?
whats the best option?

Small extensions, no problem but the longer the more unstable it may become. Rather get a rear OME spring set, or even Mikem if OME is not a budget friendly option right now.

i was thinking about that. was just wondering what you all thought of extended shackles, because my springs are not finished, but if it reduces my road holding then its not a good option.

Re: Rear extended Shackles
Don't re-temper ... it never lasts. Better option is to cold press, doesn't last forever either but a whole lot longer than re-tempering. Slightly longer shackles will be fine without really affecting stability, like about 50 / 60mm longer, but remember that on a 60mm longer shackle you only achieve a 30mm gain in height, so it's seldom the solution for your problem. Just depends on how much you need to lift it.

Re: Rear extended Shackles
extended shackles don't seem to be the way to go.
i inquired at mega world pe, for the constant 250kg packs. for both packs with bushes comes to R5410.
i think that's the way i'm going to go, i must sleep on it first tho

Rather get the OME then .... it'll match the front as well, no mix-n-match.

Re: Rear extended Shackles
Hi Francois here from 4xLUX
What I recommend is what we do with great success is to re temper both spring packs at the back and fit one more extra spring blade in each
pack. The vehicle will def lift about 50mm and you will be able to handle more load, at least 300kg. Even when having a permanent load like all the camping gear for example, then the rear will hang much less. The cost on both and with new shackle bushes
is R1600.

i thought of that as an option, but my handbrake cables are very close to the pack and if put in another blade it will touch

Hallo
We slot the bracket at the diff housing to give it the necessary clearance. The pack thickens with a maximum of 9mm.

Re: Rear extended Shackles
