Tires with 4.875 ratio 2.8D
Its time to take off the muds!
at the moment i have pirelli 31 10.5 15 mud terrains and i don't do much mudding days days.
should i stay with the 31 or go down to a 30? will it be a problem the the 4.875 ratio if i go smaller?
the 30's are cheaper and to my reasoning, less resistance on the road so better fuel consumption
what do you guys think?
also what make of A/T should i go for? was thinking of the bfg at, cooper st or friestone radial atx?

IMHO...... I would stay with the 31x10.5x15. It gives you a slight bit more ground clearance and the price difference shouldn't be that much?

If the price difference is that great. I would down grade a bit as well. Not sure what the impact on the fuel consumption would be, but you might experience a slight increase in power. Smaller diameter wheel to turn
Speedo will be affected as well.

Re: Tires with 4.875 ratio 2.8D
i wonder if there's a 31 9.5 15 tire instead of the 31 10.5 15, something the same hight, but a bit narrower

Re: Tires with 4.875 ratio 2.8D
that's a good point, but quiet strange cause i think the SFA's originally came out with a 30.Lollie wrote:Tarquin with the 31,s my speedo is 99.9% accurate compare to the gps.I will stay with 31,s
at the moment my bakkie can only get to 120km /h after that it hasn't got enough power on a flat.
i think if i have an AT tire it will make a big difference, but i don't want to spend that money and not get the right result. 30's are also a fair bit cheaper and i think i will be able to climb hills with them better

are you all going for 31's for the and height or because it will make my driving experience nicer and a better fuel economy?

Re: Tires with 4.875 ratio 2.8D
I put 31" on my kzte
The extra height was great and it looked good
But practically it wasnt very good.
I sold them and put back the 30's.
Loss of power was too much. And also screwed the odo readings.

Re: Tires with 4.875 ratio 2.8D
see if you can borrow a set of 30 9.5 and test it. then only can you make the decision to say is it worth it or not. you know the 2.8 is a bit underpowered.
