31" VS 32"
Hi. Can I please get some advice on the subject. I own a 1994 2.4P D/C SFA Hilux. Currently fitted with 31x10.5 BFG AT tyers. I would like to fit 32x11.5 Kumo MT tyers. I know that I will sacrifice torq and fuel consumption. Can anyone perhaps give me figures and or advice of the influence that the biggar tyers will have on the vechile. Regards

Re: 31" VS 32"
31's is the max I would go (I have 31's on my own SFA). You're already sacrificing torque and fuel economy with 31's but it's still a fair option - the speedo reads correctly as well.
If you go with 32's I think you're going to be disappointed - economy and torque will drop off dramatically (you'd get better economy with a V8). You could try regain some of that loss with an EFI conversion, but that'll set you back quite a bit more than a set of tyres.
If you want to go the V8 route, then you will have to replace the complete drive-train, including diffs - the standard units will not be able to handle the power. Now you're talking serious moola that you won't get back if you sell the vehicle.
For what reason do you want 32's?

Re: 31" VS 32"
Thanks Mud Dog. You are absolutly right. My decision to consider the 32's is purely for looks. As it is I can do with more torque. I just made up my mind, will stick with the 31's. Regards

Don't know about the SFA but on IFS you can fit 31 without any mods but for 32" you must either cut the front fender or do body lift.

Re: 31" VS 32"
I'm not sure of 32" but when I spoke to Dino at Burnco a while back he highly recommended 33" over 31". His reason being it transform the SFA Hilux altogether. Makes it much more capable offroad. He owned a 2.4 SFA himself and according to him he got better fuel consumption as 33" kept the engine in the sweet spot as the 2.4 does not like high revs.
Also with regards to the lexus v8 the toyota 8" diffs are more than capable of handling the power including the gear driven transfercase. The weak link is the g52 gearbox but if not abused will handle the job. Most failures are due to poor installations or abuse. Also remember guys who do the conversions do it to drivetrains that have covered in excess off 200000km and then blame the gearbox.

Re: 31" VS 32"
I personally have 31" Cooper STT's but will move over the 33" they are finished.
Also what is the purpose of your vehicle. Is it a daily drive or a weekend toy? If its a weekend toy then why not sacrifice some fuel consumption for capability?
But wait for replies from people that have the changed to bigger tyres.
I even remember Hoppy saying a SFA with 33" is a different vehicle altogether if memory serves me correct.
Also 33" might be cheaper or the same price as 32" due to it being more popular.

I have 33" BFG's A/T on and only have a 2.4D. I am quite happy with it.
I get 10km/l and my speedo is 100% accurate on GPS.

31" on a SFA
Have you seen Bees , Francois's SFA at 4xLux & Swartvark : the way a SFA was ment to look.
32"s will definitely work and look great ! - maybe a bit slower and less torque.
Im thinking of selling my 32" Kumho MT's (80%) - to go for the magical 33"s on a Vigo
(I do have a little more horses under the bonnet than you though )

Re: 31" VS 32"
No mods for the SFA for 31", I did the axle move due the softe OME suspension, tyres used to catch on the inside fender seams on obstacles. Anything bigger than 31" I think the axle move is a mustpietpetoors wrote:Don't know about the SFA but on IFS you can fit 31 without any mods but for 32" you must either cut the front fender or do body lift.
