FUEL SAVING modification '86 4Y

You can save fuel by reducing the time the FUEL CUT SOLENOID (FCS) remains in the ON position on the carburetor ....this is basically the IDEL JET!
The NIKKI carburetor on the 1986 HILUX 4Y has a EMISSIONS CONTROL COMPUTER (ECC) that governs the switching ON and OFF of the FUEL CUT SOLINOID (FCS) or IDEL JET mounted on the carburetor
Here's how EMISSIONS CONTROL COMPUTER works in a nutshell
*it is a printed circuit board mounted in the left foot well....it is calibrated to turn OFF the FUEL CUT SOLENOID (FCS) (IDEL JET) only after 2250 RPM
*it will first recieve a signal from the VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE (VSV)
*provided the vacuum is above plus minus 15 inches of mercury
2250 RPM IS VERY HIGH and one will find that the IDEL JET is actually suppyling fuel in more cases than it is not.
if one places a warning light in the FUEL CUT SOLENOID path you can see when it lights when this extra fuel jet is running (FCS)
a simple modification whereby you exclude the EMISSIONS CONTROL COMUTER from overriding the VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE is fairly simple
then you run the FUEL CUT SOLENOID (FCS) solely on the VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE and it works well and gets you to about 8.5km / liter
installing a vacuum gauge is highly recommended to monitor the state of the engines combustion...slight ajustments to accelerator is easily noticed as a rise in vacuum and to a more leaner mixture
thanks for having a read through this
