Very interesting .... a brave man with a saw and welder, but then it's not a daily runner, and I would wonder if some of those "McGuiver" mods would stand up to our roadworthy codes  . Still a very entertaining read, thanks.

both trucks have dual cases, stock front, 4.7 rear, twin stick shifters, detroit lockers front and rear, 5.29 gears.

I made the front bumpers, rock sliders, shackles, braces, well pretty much everything else.

thanks for the compliment.

That LUX looks awesome. What engine do you have in and what transfer box. I see the transfer box is nicely tucked in under the body not like ours that are sticking out. What can i do to tuck the transfer box in?

the white box behind the cab was a tool box. But it sat to high and has been replaced with a smaller one that sits down in the bed.

the air compressor is a york air conditioner compressor under the hood where the stock air conditioner pump would sit. pretty easy to set up with pressure switch and safty valves.

the transfer case is a dual set up with the stock reduction box in front and marlin dual adaptor and 4.7 gears with the dual stick in the rear case.

they set in the stock location using a bud built dual transfer case mount.
I bet you guys could make one for half what it would cost to ship one there.
they are 3/8 of an inch thick with a 3/16 inch thick skid plate.

both my truck and my wifes trucks are set up the same.

the motors are gas, 22re, the first year of the fuel injection over here and the last year of the straight front axles. 1985 model year.

I would sure like one of your 4 door diesel trucks with the solid front axle!!

we have a dakota territory challenge each year.
many club runs each year with every one welcome.

I got our club to start a forum like this one.
and a main web site.
I run the picture site for our runs from the pictures I take and others send me.

so go to club runs.
then 2011 and check out our snow run pictures with stock to wild hand built off road buggies.

I found in the snow run that I was floating on 4 to 5 feet of snow.
until you stopped or in one case I just drove into the shadow of a tree and fell through the snow. My tires with the springs hanging were not touching the ground.
I hooked to winch to a tree and just came right up out of the holes and back ontop of the snow.

it was a lot of fun!!

I just bought some 35 inch by 15.5 wide for a 15 inch rim. super swamper sx's for the next show run. I mounted these on some bead lock rims that I had laying around. so I will be able to air down to next to nothing.

that should give me a total, tire foot print that is 6 feet wide by 5 or 6 feet long.
so my truck should float on the snow!!!

That's an awful lot of foot-print!! Those extra wides aren't going to be good for much else besides the snow, unless you plan on going water skiing!  Personally I prefer narrow tyres (we don't have that much snow here) unless it's for sandy conditions, but let's face it, they always look great on any truck ... make it look mean. ;-)

Fantastic pics on your site .... would really love one of those rigs for the more 'rough stuff', but the availability of parts and the costs are prohibitive for most of us here ...... you have to expect some damage and breakages. Maybe in time ..... ;-)

it is a very wide tire.
they were hardly used, looked new and were only 600.00 dollars for 4 of them.
with the price of tires getting so high here. I thought it was a great buy.
I looked on several web sites and they are 430.00 dollars each new.

I bet those wide tires would work great in sand.
but I also think that the low horse power of the 22 re would be a problem.

I don't think you want to go slow in sand.

any ways these trucks are great fun.

I just bought a built up jeep.... I think I will be selling it soon as it is very hard to work on.

that and I have enough Toyota parts saved up to build maybe 2 Toyota's. I have more 1985 Toyota parts then the local salvage yard!!!

wow, how time passes so fast... these trucks are 26 years old and still kicking a$$. over 1/4 of a century....

I would just love one of your new, solid axle 4 door 4 runners with a manual transmission and the diesel motor..

I would trade both trucks and the jeep for one. but you can not even order these things here in the USA...

are they still using the solid front axles in your new trucks over there?

Hi Mark, yeah these trucks are amazing .... The solid front axle models were last produced here in 1998, after which they fitted IFS (a pity IMO).

Too early to congratulate you on your son, but here's wishing you and 'mommy' all the best. Hope all goes well when the time arrives ....... I suppose the 'Pink Lady' has been standing idle for a while, and probably will for a little longer still, until 'Junior' is ready to go along. ;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Hi Mark, awesome looking trucks you have there. Wouldnt mind to come and do some trails there by you guys. A mate of mine went on trainning to Jeeps 4x4 course in the states and he said it was very scary. I am curently busy doing a EFi conversion on my 22R & would just like to know what consumpsion you guys get with the factory standard 22RE.

pretty hard to tell you.

stock I do not know.

big tires, lots of gearing, only driving to and on the trail rides. spending all day with the truck in a low range from 2.28 to 10.7 to one in the transfer case. I get about 15 MPG on gas.

but now remember, 36 inch tires with 10 psi in them I can barely get into 3rd gear going down the road.

I can use 5th if the hill is steep enough!!

10 psi of air in the tires feels like you have the parking brake on!!

I do have a turbo motor that I am working on.

but also thinking about the chevy ls 1 motors.. or maybe use my toyota axles, transfercases on a chevy trail blazer with the 4.3 vortec in it.......

Just came across this road trip on the internet.

please tell me that it is really not that way. It is a story about the congo...

I was horrified to read some of that, and some I would rather not even think about. there is a warning to not read the post that bothered me the most..........

it is a great story of adventure in a toyota and very well written. but some of it I found very disturbing.

Little fella looks jolly enough :D: ... not sure which of his parents he resembles more. Nice pics, Mark, and yes they grow fast .... seems like just a few weeks ago you were telling us of his arrival. In what may seem like a year or two, he'll be asking for the truck keys to go wheeling!
