I would like to fit 33" tyres to my 2.7 Hilux (2000 model)

Hi Neil, welcome to the forum

You can indeed fit 33"s to an IFS, I know Okkie van Wyk did it to his Obelix/Vlakvark Hilux...

Hi Neil

Welcome here with us. About your question regarding the 33’s.
Yes it can be done, I have a set of 33X12.5X15 BFG all terrains s on my 2.7
First you have to ask why you want 33’ on there?
Performance wise I would not recommend it as it would influence the performance and fuel consumption as well as the Speedo drastically

Had I not bought my vehicle with the 33’s fitted I would most likely not have gone that way I would fit 32’s instead
You would have to raise the body 100mm or maybe more
My van has been raised with a TJM suspension kit to approximately 100mm above standard to accommodate the 33’s
I don’t know if just some body spacers would do the trick
A friend of mine has a 50mm body lift on his 2.7 legend and he had to cut away part of the mud flaps to prevent the wheels touching.

But then all that said
 IT LOOKS DAMN NICE
Hope that helps you a bit

Maybe look at some of the narrower 16" tyres with an overall diameter of 33".

The reason I say this is because I will never be able to fit 33x12.5R15 tyres on my bakkie, a Triton Clubcab, but with the correct offset rim I can fit a 285/75R16 tyres with NO suspension lift and NO bodylift.

I'm currently running 255/85R16 tyres with an overall diameter of 33.3" and the suspension is 100% standard.

Another option is to stay with your 15" rims, but fit narrower 33x10.5x15 instead of the "standard" 12.5. Hard to find, but I bought a set of BFG Bajas in that size from TWT in CT.

Yip, that would be even better, but as you said, that size is very hard to get hold of.

Niel

I've got 33" Maxxis Bighorn's on my 2002 IFS
I didn't buy my Hilux like that, I did it all myself at home.

I didn't have to do a 100mm body lift, 40mm was sufficient, and yes I had to cut some sections
of the plastic wheel arches to make it work but it can be done very neatly and you won't be able to tell the difference
if you don't know what it should look like.

Performance wise you do loos allot of power and fuel consumption but I regained all plus more by fitting an free flow + branches + SAC uni-chip.

My 2.7 IFS goes like hell and performs very well off road, ask Thys we did a trip together last weekend at Scheppie Saus.

So I would say go for it, just do it!
Look around and you'll find n post where I explained exactly how I did my body lift.

Good luck with fitting your 33", my next step will most probably be 35" and I strongly believe it can be done.

Cheers

Johannes
