Powerful but slow hilux
Hi There, I am sure someone can help, I have recently changed out my 2.2 motor and replaced it with a V6 3L SX motor, however the max speed I can get out of the hilux is 110km/h at around 4500rpm. (1990 model) anyone know what one can do to change this?

Did you change the gearbox/diff ratios as part of the conversion?spearpoint wrote:Hi There, I am sure someone can help, I have recently changed out my 2.2 motor and replaced it with a V6 3L SX motor, however the max speed I can get out of the hilux is 110km/h at around 4500rpm. Don't forget to change the front diff as well, or you will have a major problem when in 4x4 mode.

Any Gearbox/Diff specialist should be able to help you. Probably about R4k per each, maybe a trade in if yours are in good nick.

Re: Powerful but slow hilux
Its cheaper to fit 33"s and a lift kit. 50mm lift and 50mm body lift. Looks trick. Check the timing on the V6 before any rash thoughts.

Re: Powerful but slow hilux
Maybe you must shift the box in to high range because I think you are in low because a 4.875 diff gives you 140 km|h at 4000 rpm in high range in 5th gear .
