Powerful but slow hilux

Post by spearpoint »

Hi There, I am sure someone can help, I have recently changed out my 2.2 motor and replaced it with a V6 3L SX motor, however the max speed I can get out of the hilux is 110km/h at around 4500rpm. (1990 model) anyone know what one can do to change this?

Did you change the gearbox/diff ratios as part of the conversion?

Don't forget to change the front diff as well, or you will have a major problem when in 4x4 mode.

Any Gearbox/Diff specialist should be able to help you. Probably about R4k per each, maybe a trade in if yours are in good nick.

Its cheaper to fit 33"s and a lift kit. 50mm lift and 50mm body lift. Looks trick. Check the timing on the V6 before any rash thoughts.

Maybe you must shift the box in to high range because I think you are in low because a 4.875 diff gives you 140 km|h at 4000 rpm in high range in 5th gear .
