'sticky' clutch?

Post by ravens »

hey everyone, I'm hoping somebody can advise me...I'm noticing that every morning, after the bakkie stands for a while, it pulls away very heavy, almost like the clutch is sticking (and then release with a jerk)...but it's only after the vehicle has been standing for a few hours, otherwise drives normally

has anybody experienced something like this?

I'll take it to the agents but wanted to check with the smart guys before I get ripped off :wth:

thanks

Not perhaps due to chewing gum stuck to the underside of your shoes?

Nah, seriously .... not too sure what you mean by "sticky", but is there any sign of fluid leakage around the bell housing / rear of motor area? Just wondering if the clutch plate has been contaminated with either oil from the rear crank seal or brake fluid from the clutch slave cylinder.

Sounds like a handbrake cable is sticking. Remove the wheels and brake drums. Get someone to pull the handbrake up and then release it. The handbrake lever should extend and return to its original position if not it needs replacement

Does the vehicle sleep outside overnight? Can be that the rear brake shoes are sticking to the drums due to moisture.

Thanks for the replies - what a great forum!

Now that you mention it, that's exactly what it feels like - the rear brake shoes sticking - sleeps outside so that maybe adds to it...

Thanks Mud Dog - I checked and there is a bit of a leak on the box - not much but the 'box will probably have to come out, even if just to change the seals...probably do the clutch while I'm at it since that's never been changed...and no, there's no chewing gum under my shoes

Have a great weekend !!
