2000 Hilux radio

Post by Gerrit S »

:beg:

Gerrit, we did this to my radio just last week.... but I wasn't paying attention!

Remove the face plate and then there are three (or four?) little black screws you must remove as well before removing the panel. Then at the TOP of the radio, on the right hand side IIRC, you have to insert a flat radio removal thingie to push down on a spring catch. It is not the usual side mount spring clip.

Fitting a new radio has its problems too, because the new radio has its springie things on the left & right side, unlike the Panasonic that has it top & bottom. But we used a short piece from a thick cable tie to "jam" the radio in. The new radio works like a charm!

Dankie baie, gaan more hom probeer uithaal!

Roep as jy vasbrand, dan sal ek gaan sekermaak vir jou.

It sounds worse than it is. I believe the screw behind the ashtray is just there to prevent the panel from falling off, or for quick removal by affirmative shoppers.

I believe that the brakets can also be bought ready made, as most other Japanese bakkies use a similar setup.

Attached is a cut-out from the Sony head unit install documents to give you an idea of what needs to happen (as far as brackets are concerned).

Gerrit, I actually remembered to look at the Panasonic radio this morning, which is still lying here at work. Exactly as I said - remove face plate, look at top right corner. There is a small spring loaded latch there/ Depress it with a screw driver and Whalla! Your radio will slide out of the receptacle. It's something like a two-second job. You will enjoy this so much that you will re-insert it and drive round to the radio place and educate them....

Baie bly jy het reggekom ! As ek jy is gooi die Panasonic ver WEG!
