Post by Thabogrobler »

I saw this on a(very dirty) Prado this week - it can not be that hard to get it manufactured like this?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the head on the Prado motor is also different to the one in the Hilux's KZ-TE. Therefore the higher power figures? It can't be only the fact that there is an intercooler present??

Well Theunis,

The gory details I don't know, but what I do know is that my Kz looks very similar to the one in the pics. Lets say, look at the idea as a better/shorter route than the commercially available intercoolers? What does differ is the pipe from the aircleaner - the Prado's is more round and my belief is that it should pass more air than our oval-ish ones? :problem:

Donkey,

The sad thing it didn't have a scoop on :naah: but should you go that route the D4D scoop looks like it was made for the IFS!

I'm old school in my thinking when it comes to inter-coolers, Thabo, I like mine in the front, but thanx for the post.

Ja, I hear you BUT the loooooooooong pipes that has to snake its way to the front and then back again - it rubs through on everything, takes valuable space and is a nuisance.

Frik moved his front the front to the top and claims a 1.5km/l gain and improved power!

I would love to make my intercooler top mounted. at the moment it and its 3mm bashplate, are the first point of contact when the nose digs in while offroading, also if driving in the mud the intercooler blocks solid.

Spek to Universal coolers - last I checked they make to order.

Otherwise speak to a performance shop like JMS - they also make custom coolers, radiators and the like

Re: KZ-TE Top mount intercooler

Post by JohanM »

The Intercooler that is fitted to the prado is the SAC Prado intercooler. The bonnet does not have a outside bonnet scoop like the D4D's. The old Prado like the 200 Cruiser and new Prado has scoops mounted in the grill to channel air up into a "air Ducting" that blows over the intercooler itself. No cutting involved on those vehicles as the bonnet is designed like that.

Maybe you guys can swop your bottom mount coolers for Prado's intercoolers and get someone to do the bonnet cut and scoop mod made.
