Don't waste your time Niel! The negatives totally outweigh the positives, I tried it, was a total waste of time and effort!

Most guys do this conversion to score a few kW, but remember the direct load of the viscous, gets converted to extra load on alternator with the elec fan!

For a platkar an electrical fan is perfect, for a offroad vehicle viscous wins hands down! Remember those thick glasses japs are very clever, even the modern Vigo 4L V6 still uses a viscous fan. Must be a reason why!

True, but i've been looking at the system in my Rav4,its a '96' model, twin fans with sealed units, still running strong. The Rav has also been used for a lot of offroad driving, did my first bots trip in it about 7 years ago,i guess the system has proved itself. What did you use to put in your vehicle?

Do yourself a favour and forget about electric fans ..... too much hassle and more that can go wrong. As B says, factory installation for a platkar, yes! But not for off-road if you're going to overland with it ... you will have a water crossing from time to time and the electric fans are not made for this. The Rav is not a proper off-roader, it's essentially an RV (recreational vehicle).
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

I was considering electric fans also but what put me off was the noise when it switches on !!!!!

My 2 cents.

No leave the viscouse

Much beter than elct

I even used vicouse on my lexus v8

And prefer the viscouse over the hydraulic pump setup on lexus v8. , by changeging the hydra for a normal idler bracket with viscouse .. I try and convince clients but hey each to his own .

David

Why replace? Is it damaged? Otherwise just replace / top up the silicon gel inside.
