Extra Fuses

Every time when I added something to my Hilux I was in a hurry. So the battery terminal ended up having 5 extra wires running from it.
Today i decided to make a plan and tidy it up.
So I added a fusebox which can take 6x fuses.

This is what it looked like before:

I added a 30 Amp Fuse to the main wire going to the fusebox. That is for just in case something goes wrong at the fuse box then I have another fuse.

NOTE: I have noticed that there is a small gap between the casing of the fusebox and the contact points. If you do not look properly what you are doing you sometimes stick the leg of the fuse in between the casing and the contact points. It will then obviously not make good contact. So just make sure you install the fuse properly.

Same problem here Eric,somebody needs to bring out a bat terminal which can handle many connections.But for now Pieter i think your system looks great.

Good idea Pieter! The 'overcrowded' battery terminal is a common problem, I think ..... main fuse-box supply / starter motor cable / alternator / winch / dual battery connection / spotlights .... and so it goes on. Have a similar fuse box lying about that I was going to use for something else, but maybe I should do as you have done.

Something that I looked at before was the fact that the main fuse box is under utilized. There are open slots with no connections, and I wonder if one can get the fuse holder inserts for those boxes. Anyone done this before?

I took the same route after I visited Cris at R&D Offroad for something a while ago, and he made a comment about the spider's web around the battery.

It makes it so much easier to find these fuses, as I mounted mine on a bracket and labeled all the fuses so that I can see at a glance which is which. I added the fuses for my 2 way radio as well as the big trunk fuse to the same bracket so they are all in one place.

And here is the electrical layout of Elders.

Up front I added a medium sized weather proof box. This houses:
- hooter relay (twin air horns)
- power to 29mhz and VHF
- spot lights
- I also added a Hella power point


In the back of Elders I added a larger weather proof box, powered from the 2nd battery. Here I used :
- neutral buzz bar
- fuse box
- multiple power points (compressor, fridge, etc)
- relay to activate park distance sensors
