Might be a stupid question,is it wise to fill your whole cooling system with anti freeze? I am in the process of replacing my KZ TE 2000 model radiator and if there are no negative consequences I want to do it. Second question, what is the capacity of KZ TE cooling system.

Never fill your system with pure undiluted anti freeze
Follw the instructions on the bottle.

Do yourself a favour and buy Toyotas premixed antifreeze (the ones that's pink in colour). It will protect the inside of the engine (no rust) and also has a lubricating effect on the seals. And if you should pick up a leak, it is easy to spot as it leaves a residue

True... but I paid cheaper at Toyota than at Midas for the Castrol branded one

The only problem with OEM premix is the fact that it causes the cauliflower effect under the rubber hoses where it attaches to the alli pipes. Other than that it is brilliant and expensive

Also check with VW or Audi for their pink antifreeze. It is undiluted and was about half the price of the pre-mixed Toyota antifreeze

You get Castrol Radicool in concentrate and premix. I think the concentrate works out quite cheap.

Marius, I have never experienced this with a vehicle that was running from new on the OE antifreeze. It did however happened on my Hilux which was running rusty water when I bought it. So I can say that when corrosion has started it certainly can cause some more "cavities" but despite that, never had a leak. So I will stay with it.

The advantage of sticking to the premix is you can always just top-up with premix again and the ratio will always be spot on. If you buy concentrate and have to add fluid to your system, you are never 100% sure if you have the correct ratio

worth adding - few years back the engine of my mom's car was completely rebuilt. For some stupid reason they did not put anti-freeze in. SIX MONTHS later the radiator was full of rusty water. Took a LOT of flushing to get the system clean again !!


Yes, certainly "anti-freeze" is part of the game, but do not underestimate the "anti-corrosion" properties of these additives


Toyota or Castrol, just get a quality product and use as per the mixing instructions.

I hate paying for their water. When the system is completely drained it is easy to get the mix right. I dilute the concentrate at the right ratio before I top up.

worth just topping up and testing with plain water first .....

can get expensive if you have a small leak (loose hose clamp) ...


Then drain and fill with the mix

I fork out the money for the Toyota premix. I used to put the green stuff in my 22R and it corroded the pipes away.
Must have had the ratios wrong as Cassie implied.
