Fender covers - Wheel Arches

Post by frik »

Guys I need a few genuine opinions please. I have taken off these plastics not too sure what you call them because I scrached them due to stupidity a while back.

I am seriously thinking of spraying them with stone gaurd or at least let n good spray painter do it for me the question is if I make it black do you guys think its going to look out of proportion or should I keep them white.

A few opinions please.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a photo in one of the post where someone has done this and I must say it looked quite nice. (You can always try the preview option in Photoshop :D: )

I have seen one of two in CT driving around with black one that has not been sprayed.
I must say, it did look a bit funny. maybe I'm just use to see them color coded.

I reckon when you have them black they get a little lost with the tyres. And most people on the road will look at it and think your fender covers are missing perhaps.

But hey, if you have to spray them anyway, why not get a can of black and do a quick pray job yourself to see how it looks? The sprayer will have to prep the plastics before doing a proper job anyway.

Frik

My Pajero has the ARB rear bumper and wheel arch covers and the tupperware on the doors all colour coded but I saw on a Pajero forum where a guy stone chiped his bumpers wheel arch covers and everything and left it like that. It does actually look quite good and is sooo much more practical with teh chips / scratches enol.

Since you replacement bumper is already black I am sure if you make the stonechip the tupperware it will not look too bad either. I am contemplating doing the same.

A lot can be said for colour-coding but from a practical point of view and ease of maintenance it is maybe not such a bad idea to paint them black as Bennie suggested. That way you can respray them whenever you need to without having to take them to the panel beaters/spray-painters every time they pick up a scratch or 2.

I must admit I like this and the fact that my bakkie has a black bullbar and black sidebars it will jell in very well I guess.
Now for the million questions did you remove the wheel arches and if so was did you replace all the clips and the rubber strip in between.

I plan to start this weekend

No i didnt remove them. Masking tape, sharp hobby knife (the one you use to cut your tamiya plastics) and lots of news paper.

must admit, I must still get use to the idea.
I like the idea of it being more robust, and I think the nissan hardbody gets away with it well, but for the Legend... mmmm I don't know.

Maybe cause I think the lux is more refined than the nissan :D:
