Location of your VHF radio.
Hello guys.
I have a VHF radio that came with my vehicle when I purchased it. ( It was lying on the front seat)
So I have applied for the relevant License from ORRA and am keen to get chatting, the question now I where do I install it.
So if anyone has one in their GEN 6 and can offer some advice and pictures on where theirs is installed that would be great.

Hi Neil.
Thanks I did see this on the forum and love it. Swambo not to keen on it though. Will have to try convince her otherwise.
But for now I'm looking for another spot.
I see the wood badge emblem on your profile are you involved in scouting?

I'm the troop scouter at 9th Benoni Scout Group, and yourself?
Somewhere there is another thread, showing all the places the guys have mounted the radios, but can't seem to find it.

Thanks for the links.
In the end be it land, sea or air. As long as it ends in scout that makes me happy.

Re: Location of your VHF radio.
My Hilux is older than the one you asked about, but I've put it behind the centre console. Is out of the way there but you can still easily reach the knobs.

It's the Kenwood TK7100M.
Do these radios need to be cooled if they are installed in a closed housing?

Re: Location of your VHF radio.
No, should be fine. The heatsink only warms up when you're transmitting and conversations usually only last 20-30 seconds at a time. Just give it some breathing space around the heatsink to allow for natural convection.
Please remember to complete the radio database details here:

Have you got all the channels programmed? (9 ORRA plus 2 Hilux Club channels).

Re: Location of your VHF radio.
Not yet. I'm waiting for the channels to combine as you said in your e mail to me FD.
You said 4 -6 weeks for that to happen.
So il wait for the news on that.
All I'm looking for for the radio is a mic clip. Where can I find one of those?

Re: Location of your VHF radio.
We've got, but then any radio dealer should have. You can also get from Kenwood, halfway between Pta & Jhb.
Please complete the database, the more names on there, the better! I have applied for 400 radios and we currently barely have half of that.
