Replacing kaput KZ-TE engine in Hilux Surf

Post by chopper »

I'm considering buying a 2nd-hand Hilux Surf (after my son hi-jacked the 1st one) with a shot motor; how/with what do I replace a "seized" KZ-TE engine in a Surf? Probably not with a replacement KZ-TE motor :wth: :?:
Is it possible to access reliable, imported KZ engines? From where and at what price?
Any advice appreciated
Thank you

Maybe a 2.7 3RZ 4 cylinder... or if budget allows a 4L V8 Lexus... if you want to stay diesel the KZ is probably the best option.

That Prado diesel is stronger than the KZ too. Or if you want to go petrol the 5VZ was a standard option in the Surf overseas.

Stay away from imports, had a bad experience cos one never knows the true mileage and pretty soon it too will need to be worked on. Bought a "low mileage" 4A-GE for my TwinCam and in less than a year blew the top gasket

Hence I'm rather going to overhaul my KZ and I will know all parts are new

Thank you for all the advice
Might go the overhaul/re-build way depending on the damage; what cost do you estimate Tumelo :?:
Will consider the Prado engine option as well if it doesn't entail major mods?

Buy a code 3 or code 4 D4D at a scrapyard for around 45k, the motor fits on your box, use what you need and sell the rest, if you buy right you can come out square

Thank you all
Will consider all possible options - I like the D4D very much :D:
My average cruising speed (nowadays) is between 95 and 105km/hr - it might even do to have the KZ engine repaired :?:
