Longest Shocks on the Market

Post by Stubs »

Whats the longest shocks available for my 89 SFA on the market ?? I presently run TJM's but they are at there limit (ish) sat on the driveway.....I have extended shackles and OME leafs....someone mentioned to me the Gabriel Ranchos X9000 or something like that....
the other option is to put in a spacer/bracket at the top where they sit especially the front ones and lower them down....but not sure if I want to go that route.....

any info welcome

cheers

Im not a big fan of spacers at the top. It will in theory stop the wheel from articulating all the way up. perhaps even before the leafs hit the bump stop, Ranchos is good, I have HDP's also longer than the standard. and there is many other, depends on the budget.

thats a nice looking shock, how you find them, I also agree dont want to interfere with the wheels natural articulation process but inserting brackets to lower the shock etc....irrespective of budget what else is out there....???

You can also check the shocks for the cruisers. I know way back when, when drive out did that blue bakkie, they fitted cruiser shocks to compensate for the travel shortfall after the lift. HDP's is very nice.
If you still have blank pages in your passport, it's probably time for a road trip.

Speak to Allan (Hoppy) about the Ranchos. He fitted mine about a month ago and they are brilliant!

Stuart, OME N76 shocks is a racing aplication shock, its 90mm longer than your std OME shock for your Lux (rear). Front is very easy to extend the bottom mount with 2 pieces of flat bar. then youcan use the std shock. Remember, Land Cruiser shocks has a bit harder valving due to the heavier vehicle set up...

We were "hunting" at a Game farm outside Messina, i lost my footing and touched the 20 km fence that surrounds the property, it was the longest shock i've experienced.

I like to chose my ride comfort, i use Rancho's on all my trucks.

@ Hoppy, any particular ranchos ....the RS9000xl ????

@ outlaw, not sure how I would put anything under my front shocks as the mount is welded solid onto the axle and then obviously the one bolt through holds the shock to this mount, or am I missing something ?? :surrender:

youre missing something hehe. i take 2 pieces of flatbar, drill new holes in and weld them on the existing bracket facing upwards to extend the existing mount. on the one side i weld it inside of one existing bracket, and on the outside of the other to keep the width the same. i can upload a picture if youre still missing the idea

loosen your shock at the bottom and push it up till totaly collapsed and measure the distance towards the mounting point, then measure your distance to the bumpstop rubber. add another 20mm to the bump stop measurement. subtract and extend the bracket with that amount. if to long your shock will bottom out

I've got a good set of XGS shocks you can try out, they are very long, about 150mm longer than std, had them in Luxter, but i don't like the hard ride, prefer Ranchos
