Tyres rubbing on front mud guards.

Post by Ranger »

I recently bought my 4.0 V6. Still getting to know the vehicle.
It is fitted with Velocity Raptor 31*10.5 AT tyres on the standard 15 inch Hilux mags.
Today I fitted the same tyres-with a set of Racing Hart mags that I took of my Ford Ranger- onto the Hilux.
I believe the Racing Hart's are 8 or 8.5J as opposed to the Hilux's 7.5J
The problem is that the tyres are now rubbing quite badly on the inside of the front mudflaps when I turn.
I never experienced the problem on my 2004 Ranger-I had 31*10.5 Yokohama AT tyres on the Racing Harts then.
Thought the Hilux has more space under the arch ?
Any solutions ?

Regards.

Just throw lift spacers in the front and you will be ok...

I'm guessing that the Ranger Mags offset is different to that of the Hilux Mag. In other words the dish part of the wheel is deeper than on the Hilux and effectively give you a wider stance. If this is the case, when you now turn, the wheel actually moves further backwards and forwards and is now in line with the small screw holding those liners in place.

Lift spacers should sort it out as Stef suggested

Thank you for the feedback. The stance is indeed wider with the Racing Hart mags and looks better than with the standard mags.
Will try the spacers. Is it necessary to do wheel alignment after fitting the spacers ?

Yup you must do wheel alignment. I have seen most spacers sort out the rubbing issue but it is not the preferred "remedy" if i can call it that. With spacers you might get front CV issues in the long run which is not the case with a suspension lift IE OME, Mikem etc. I had them fitted and many other guys with no problems at all though... It also levels out the trokkie if you fit a set of 25mm spacers(40mm lift)
