Auto-up on driver side window switch?
I was looking at this topic on the Cruiser forum http://www.landcruiserclub.co.za/cms/in ... pic&t=9189 and had a look at my KZ's switch circuit but it is way different. Is there a way to change it to be auto-up aswell?

Re: Auto-up on driver side window switch?
Must be ... but I wonder how much effort and mod it will take. If I'm not mistaken the LC has a seperate little button (Click switch) which engages / disengages the auto up function, which you would need otherwise you will be permanently auto up / down, Then there must be some sort of sensors for the fully up / fully down positions, with cut-off. Then you gotta figure out where and how to place them, fit them and wire it all in (may also need a relay or two).
Seems a lot of effort for a trivial gain, in my opinion.

Re: Auto-up on driver side window switch?
Ok I had a look at the KZTE auto open window mechanism. The switch they use for the driver side window is totally different from the other 3 windows. If you want to convert all the windows to auto open/close you will need a extra pc board.
I would suggest getting a spare control panel and just modify the spare control. Then there should be no need to modify the wires in the door panel. The only modification should be to assure the power to the window winders stay on for longer. But that should be a small conversion.
You will need a switcth to change from auto to manual.
I thought of changing my Toyota alarm remote with a three or even a four channel remote. That way you could get added safety.
Button 1. Open only driver’s door.
Button 2. Open all the doors
Button 3. Lock all the doors and close all windows
Button 4. Lock all the doors but leave all windows 10mm open for those hot summer days.

Re: Auto-up on driver side window switch?
Gert,
Is a simple drivers door auto up just a matter of changing the switch or does it also involve some high tech electronic bits?

Unfortunately it involves some "high tech" electronic. Toyota used a slider switch to operate a small timer circuit with a overload trip to stop the window.Thabogrobler wrote:Gert,

Re: Auto-up on driver side window switch?
Yes you will be able to use the same switch. You will just have to add a extra button to change from “auto to manual” up and down.
The current switches will still be used. They will give the signal to the new controller board and the new controller board will operate the existing system.

Re: Auto-up on driver side window switch?
The probleme is that I have to build one and sort out all the problems on it. Thats why I suggested that one should get a spare and modify the spare one. then if there is a probleme you can just unplug the faulty one and plug in the original one.
I don't like cutting wires and tampering with the wiring. that is looking for trouble.

Re: Auto-up on driver side window switch?
Well just the other day I started closing all the windows while I was driving. The next moment my wife started speaking in some strange voice. Mmm her fingers were caught in the window.
Yes I did sleep on the couch that night.
I’m not a big fan of auto closing windows. And now I know why Toyota didn’t build it into the 4x4’s
But yes it can be done.

Re: Auto-up on driver side window switch?
My surf has auto drivers window only
because its a Jap import it also has no pinch function to stop the window if your arm is in it,which i found out the hard way bloody hurts.
The main master switch on the drivers door has a few functions on mine
controls all windows
auto up (driver only)
window lock
key out window operation
it works in tandam with the door control relay and if the key is removed from the ignition all the windows are still operational untill the drivers door is closed.
If the master switch stuffs up it can be pulled apart and the contacts cleaned and its usually good for another couple of months.
These switches are AUD$400 new from Toyota and are the same as the switches used in the MX83 Cressida if you get that over there.

My wife's corolla (2006 facelift) also has auto up
This would be nice, but something tells me there is more to it than just changing a relay or 2....
