The block came back from the engineering works today. All neatly wrapped in shrink wrap. I cant wait to start the build but there is this training course I am on for the rest of the week, and then there are some serious family commitments this entire weekend, so i wont get anywhere near it until next week...

Now you guys are talking my "taal"
Im looking at dropping a Rover 3,5 and a big dirty Edelbrock and Holley into my 2,7 Raider. (said motor / edelbrock / holley is wasted in my towing Rangie.... Ive got 4 of these V8 beauties)
I want to keep the Raider gbox and running gear.....I want to get away from the 3rzfe and all its electrickery (got a buyer for R15000.00 lined up also got a spare sub with crank and pistons - ran the left balance shaft) but I need to find out what will happen to the dash (clocks) if I yank out the ECU.......
Not quite a 351 but a step in the general direction.......I know of a supercharged 5,7 corvett motor in a Land Cruiser...will try get pics and contact details

The 3.5 Rover V8 is actually a Buick motor, and was used in all sorts of British cars, from MG's, Rovers even in TVR's. Performance is not too bad. Not a 350, but at least you got the 3 and the 5 right..

There was a guy from the UK on the forum who did a similar conversion, but I think it was in an SFA. Look it up..

There is a few of those alien conversions around, and it actually works well.
The instrument cluster doesn't run off the ecu, it can be made to work.
The holley is the best performance carb, but will stall on any incline, even with the "offroad kit".

Thys, liewer laat as nooit. Voorspoed.

Andy, the motor is safe, Allan is ordering the cam-kit and the EFI manifold from the importers today. He's ordering an Extreme 4x4 Torquer cam kit. Produces its torque between 600 - 4200 rpm.

We'll probably start assembling the bottom end of the motor this weekend, if we are both available.

Maybe I should call him Torq-Torqy...

Re: Gen1 Chevy 350ci V8 Rebuild

So this engine build has become a priority now. On Wednesday Kaspaas started misfiring on my way to work, after a nice long weekend of R&R. (I must add it was his first day of doing the daily commute between Pinelands and Brackies, he probably didn't smaak the idea). :silent: :silent:

After a quick examination by Allan it was determined that there was no compression on Nr6, possibly a burnt exhaust valve. That means this Hilux is out of commission, awaiting the build of the V8. This also means that he did his last 7MGE powered trail (Boegoeberg) 3 weeks ago. and what a trail to end an era on!

In the mean time, I purchased a Stormers-Blue Ford Ranger 2.5 TDI 4x4 D/C as a daily runner, and as a long distance tourer. I was looking for a KZTE, but me being unexpectedly demoted to voetslaan status and my limited available funds put an end to that that whole gedagte. It's a very comfortable ride with all the lekker dinge an SFA does not have. It is a Ford, I know, but it is a clean honest ride. Now I need to equip this for our upcoming holiday in July to Kgalagadi and Koës...

Now before you start with the Ford/Toyota stuffs, remember I have one of each, and at the moment the Ford is the one that is working...

We are still awaiting the parts that we ordered from the States, which should arrive in the next 2 weeks or so. With Kaspaas being out of commission now, we can actually take out the 7MGE motor and build all the mountings etc using the engine-block and gearbox and once that is done, build the motor and just drop it in. Also once the 7MGE is out, we can clean and respray the engine bay.

Thys,

Jinne but you guys are ongeduldig.

It are like this. Even I have budgetary limits and the recession hit hard by us as well. Anyway, I invested some serious money in 4x4 training and a good long holiday, which took priority over this build for reasons of insanity (preventing it). :beach: :beach:

Kaspaas went under the knife yesterday for the suspected "Burnt Exhaust Valve" on nr 6. As soon as the head came off the problem was re-diagnosed as a blown head gasket. The part between nr5 and nr6 burnt away, putting them both out of commission turning the engine into a 4Y. :irate: :irate: Kaspaas will run with the 7MGE a little while longer, at least until the recession is over.

He's in the recovery room at the moment and will be discharged tomorrow. Let the fun begin....

That is good news, we missed Kaspaas. Kaspaas is part of this family.

So I guess you will then be part of the team on 9 Oct?

No Kaspaas will not participate, I will co-pilot Coenie in his King Rat. He was my co-pilot last time, so I owe him.. Kaspaas will be there as an official Hilux4x4 Club recovery vehicle though..
