well as things more on, and get closer to the physical work, so the little small questions come up!!
who has used what AirFilter
has anyone ever experimented with the foam filters, similar to the ones on the quads??
all help and advice would be appreciated

Re: Air Filters For the Lexus V8 Conversion
At the moment I'm using a K&N. I'd like to change to a donaldson one day when I can find the right size and somewhere to fit it under the bonnet.
In the meantime the K&N will just have to stay well oiled...

Re: Air Filters For the Lexus V8 Conversion
thanx for the reply!!
see, that part of my problem!!
have had one K&N on a quad, and way before that had an issue with the importers of the K&N over a clutch that he had that held me up for two weeks, with nothing being done, that was about 19 years ago
any case lets stick with the air filter issue
after all, still bought a K&N filter that went on my 1st quad(about 4 years ago), a Honda TRX300
am very religious about cleaning the airfilter after every ride, and checking every thing out, yes after every ride!!
once I fitted the K&N, found very fine dust was getting past the filter, found this on the walls of the pipe past the airfilter!!
and it was VERY well oiled!!
so was advised to fit an out sock, witch I did, however there was an improvement, however not as good as the original foam air filter!! from the filtration point of view!!
IMO, that very fine dust that gets past, is what will do the damage!!
so considering the above, will be staying away from the K&N
have seen some foam filter that will need to be oiled on a regular basis, those were on a special, and sure they are gone by now!!
was wondering if any one has experimented with the foam filters, or other type of filters that work better then the K&Ns for offroad!!

Re: Air Filters For the Lexus V8 Conversion
I agree, I'm told the trick is actually to let the filter get a leetle dirty. I looked for the K&N sock things and couldn't find any.
If I could make it fit I would use a donaldson from a nissan 3.3 v6. Either that or a croozer filter. I have it on good authority that the standard hilux filter strangles the v8....

Re: Air Filters For the Lexus V8 Conversion
I've had the same issues with K&N and other re-usable filters, the fine dust always get past.
These experiments has been done by mines, the defence force, Cat, Komatsu etc, nothing beats a Donaldson type with a paper cartridge.
Nissan v6 or Ford Courier V6 or a 2.7/kzte filter works well.
You can turn the inlet manifold 180 deg. and fit one of these filters in the original spot.

Re: Air Filters For the Lexus V8 Conversion
thanx for the replys guys, sadly when I got the vehicle it had a sierra type filter on it, so no longer the original!!
looks like, will either need to go find an original filter set up, or a ''Donaldson type with a paper cartridge.''
thanx again!!

Re: Air Filters For the Lexus V8 Conversion
Sometimes out of a bad situation comes some good
sadly this year, will go by and almost for sure, won't get started on the conversion
however
a friend was cleaning up, and he found a complete Donalson filter
so now have it my possession, and one less part to look for, and one step CLOSER!!

AFAIK Dawid Blom(BlumTRD) had an issue with the standard 2.7 Filter on his Lexus - it was sucked in intself!
I think he runs a filter for each bank now?

Re: Air Filters For the Lexus V8 Conversion
If I may
What I'm busy with currently is to install two Donaldson filters in the front as I have two snorkels to feed the lexus, the air cleaners I'm going to use Donaldson S/N FPG07-0006. It has an ID of 76mm the same as the lexus intake. it also has two filters inside each air cleaner. they then get joined with a T-piece and then into the engine.
I have build a metal box 200x750x260 rubberized it and cut the same size hole in my bakkie's bin and dropped it inside the bin hanging to the bottom of the bin. The dual batteries are then taken from the front and moved to the bin, thus the space I need for the air cleaners are more than enough.
This setup is going to work for me, feel free to make your comments, the air cleaners and space were a problem for me too and this was my solution. the job isn't finished yet only the box. I want to fit a drawer system as well and this way the batteries are not in the way and I have enough space in t5he bin. Underneath the vehicle the box isn't in the way either.
