Hi Kev & welcome to the site! .... I wanted to read further, but there's nothing there!??
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.
Life is like a jar of Jalapeño peppers ... what you do today, might burn your ass tomorrow.
Don't take life too seriously ..... no-one gets out alive.
It's not about waiting for storms to pass. It's about learning to dance in the rain.
And be yourself ..... everyone else is taken!

Re: Engine Conversion Hilux 2.4t to Isuzu 4ja1
I have an really old and tired farm Hilux. The poor van has seen better days.
Previous owner unfortunately didn't know which side of a screwdriver was the
right side to use. The bakkie unfortunately suffered due to that reason.
My father and I bought it in very bad shape. It had been converted from
the Toyota 3y motor to a normally aspirated 2.4. All very great and dandy if
the 2.4 motor they put in wasn't assembled by a bunch of idiots. They had
put one of the pistons in the wrong way round and it had knocked off the
oil feed to the cylinder.
We struggled for months trying to figure out this issue. Did not strip the motor
as the vehicle as dead as it was, was in daily use. The guy who bought the motor
from us discovered the issue.
Decided against overhauling the motor as a second hand 2.4t was in the same
cost range as an overhaul. So the 2.4t was bought and put in.
It went in beautifully and all that needed to be changed was the flywheel.
The engine ran like a dream and had plenty of grunt.
The bakkie itself was not fast due to either the petrol motors diffs or the
gearbox, but it did what was required of it.
Did a fair amount of bodywork on cosmetics to the bakkie and the project
was three quarters done and my father got sidetracked by something else.
The bakkie has been running well for a good 4 years now with its up and downs
which is acceptable for the life it lives.
The other day it became really noticeable how badly the fuel consumption had
increased. So it was serviced again, including the change of the timing belt,
and the fuel consumption still did not drop. Its currently sitting at the 5km per litre
mark.
The motor does not smoke, use water or oil. It is not down on power either.
Does anyone have advice on where to look/fix this problem?
We have a spare Isuzu 4ja1 (kb250) motor lying in storage and I was wondering
if anyone had done this conversion before, and could offer me advice on how
to do this conversion?

am no expert on this one!!
however
from where I sit, it does not add up!!
the amount that you will spend on doing the conversion for the Isuzu, will be way more then replacing the motor with the same or something that just bots on!!
bellhousing/adapter plates, clutches, engine mountings, ++++++++++++++++++++
have done a few conversions and will start another one soon!!
and self would not do this one!! not with the choices of Toyota motors that there is out there!!!

Hi Fernando
Which of the toyota motors would you recommend?
I am looking for the relaibilty and fuel consumption of
the isuzu motor.
We just had the engine lying in storage so it
sort of made sense.

The ISUZU engine is a donkey with no performance (they do last though ). For all the PT of a conversion fit a WL MAZDA 2.5 TD it has power and I can supply you with a bolt on cast bellhousing. If you WANT to put the ISUZU I can make a housing for you.

Fit a Toyota 3C-T turbo diesel. fits in real easy and is cheap as chips. I get 10-11km per litre
only drawback is I have never been able to get the thermostat to work, so it takes forever to get the heater working in winter

I know people fited the 5 spead Cresida g-box to the kb250d motor so it should not be a problem, but hey like the Windhoek ad says KEEP IT REAL!

Sell that Isuzu 2.5 motor and fit a 4y efi, then you drive a Toyota not a Toyuzu that is going to give problems.
