Right engine for 98' sfa hilux

Post by massada 4x4 »

HELP!

from what I read on this forum the 2.7 and the 2.5td mazda engines goes well with the SFA.
somewhere i read the 2.5d4d also goes well, but not too sure.
before selling sfa I was toying with the idea of 2.7. even put in Alu radiator to handle it... then got the 2.7 IFS for good deal and thought why the heck not

Hi Marius,

Not been a diesel fundi, I can't answer all your questions, but I can tell you I've driven a SFA with a WL2 Mazda/Ford 2.5TDi. It may not be a Toyota engine, but it's an easy conversion and the power/economy are pretty good!

Just a question: Who in his right mind would remove the 2.8D? What a shame.

OK, granted (can't argue that even if I wanted to).

I just think the 3L is such a reliable workhorse, and so capable in serious 4x4 conditions, I'd rather save up, keep the diesel and get a D4D or V6 if you really need to go that fast. I've also heard (and maybe someone can correct me on this, or confirm) that there's only about 50 or so 2.8D 4x4 D/Cabs left in SA!

Not arguing, just defending my beloved 2.8!

The 2.8 diesel (with alpine turbo) that was in the hilux dissipeared from the mechanics that did th v6 conversion.. and the price on na imported or second hand 2.8 diesel is out of my budget.. so.. what to replace it with?? 3ct it sounds, more good then bad reveiws.. Kzte well i don't know if replacing the origional pump with a 3l pump is such a good idea,, i heard the power decrease alot. otherwize i have to look at petrol..

Hi Jarus, interesting point about the 50 odd 2.8D still around, must say that for every d/c SFA I see probably 1 in 50 is a 2.8D, (or still seems to be), mine is easily identified by the diesel smoke on pull away and gear shift   I must say I would like the power of the lexus, but won't consider until my diesel is finally done with life - then again it might not be in my lifetime! :lmao:

Groete

My 2.8D het net 3 meter korter as n V8 Disco gekom, hier by ons teen n bitter lang duin.
