Knock sensor on the 7mge

Post by Gunta »

Has anyone connected their knock sensor on the 7mge. Mine is there but not connected. How would I connect it up and what would the benefit be?

In OE systems it is used to optimize ignition timing, i haven't seen an aftermarket system that can accomodate it.

Mark, the knock sensor "listens" for knock and retards the timing just enough to prevent it.

the ECU basically tries to advance the timing as much as possible for the ambient conditions (fuel grade, air temp, load etc)
and then listens for knock to back off the timing.

Basically the advantages are the advantages of having your timing as advanced as possible for every condition. i.e. power, economy and smoothness.

The other advantage of a knock sensor is that it keeps the pests away. Mine's fitted to the front gate!

Now I need to find a way to connect it and see if it works. Anyone know where I can get the plug fitting to connect onto knock sensor?
