good day

I have just put my 1996 Hilux 2.8D Raider DC 4x2 back on the road after a lexus transplant. And what a transformation it is.

It was a hard road doing this conversion alone, after work in the evenings and on Saturdays. It took me 7 weeks of evenings and Saturdays, and it spent a week at the exhaust guy.But the driving experience is awesome.I have been driving my Hilux for 15 years, and in february the oilpump failed on the diesel.

I opted for the lextreme prewired 1UZ VVTi and kept the autobox. I'm new to driving automatic, but i rather enjoy it now.

I have got it starting from the key as it should but im completely baffled cause i cant get any of the instruments to work. i have the fuel gauge and the oil light and the heat gauge working, but what is the option with regards to a speedo and a revcounter??

I have a loose revcounter working on the a-pillar, but is there no option to get a more stock looking solution??

I have looked at the Acewell ACE-7659, but it just doesnt suit the hilux to my opinion......

Any ideas??

Llew, can't you get the OEM rev counter to work again. just get an electronics place to make up a unit as per in the link. Mine cost me R320! That was 1 Hour labour @R300 + R20 parts.

I got a quote for a Lexus V8 conversion yesterday from a guy and this is what he put at the top of the quote:

As the Lexus 5 speed gearbox has a digital speed pulse the older
mechanical speedo's will not function on 4x2 conversions

I hope I am not the bearer of bad news :surrender:

How about you get one of those racing clusters and see if you can fit the gauge into the existing unit

Something like this

You can opt for a gear driven GPS unit for the speedo from Auto Meter.

I have two 4x4 vehicles fitted with the electronic interphase units. Very accurate and reliable.

Evenings All

Can anyone maybe share some insight into the option of a Quantum or Hilux 20009 instrument cluster??

Or does these ones need some sort of computer interface to get it operational?

I seriously enjoy my Lexus! But in poefies-scared for oom traffic?

Any ideas gents??

GPS will give you accurate speed reading - until you get the cluster sorted.

Most modern cameras also have such a GPS function.

Christo that looks like a great idea, can one get it locally or do you have to import it?

I have the same problem.....

The idea I have is to fit a fortuner/hilux 2014 model speedo cluster with a unit to calibrate it to gps speed.

speedo healer for bikes but can be used on vehicles as well.

Can anyone tell if it will work?

Die speedo opdie 4x4 werk mos met n kabel vanaf die transver box so wat is die probleem as dit auto is maak jy n adaptor tussen auto en transver box en hy werk met oorspronklike cable.
