7M-GE is heaven

Post by Wollie »

Hi guys,

Eventually!!! This conversion took 2 months and a lot of sweat, tears, swearing and ......money.

But what a lovely ride. Smooth firing, and the sound coming out of the exhaust is enough to make a Porche owner green with envy! I can't believe the amount of power and torque coming out of this motor. Compared to the original 2,2 L petrol.

It runs on a Phoenix 3D management system and a 7M-GTE CAS(little funny distributor) with tripple coil packs on top of the cam covers.

Can't wait to test this baby on the sand in Moz over Desember! Zavora lodge to be exact. Following us will by our new Venter bush baby offroad trailer. \\note to self: Remember to have the longrange tank fitted next week\\

Happy driving,
Wollie

Yip. BMW Alu rad, but I fitted the aircon rad just behind the front bumper flat between the bullbar mountings. This is just a test but it prevents you from changing anything from underneath. Will post pics tomorrow.

Cool Wollie

Interesting set-up you have there, at first glance the motor (covers over the top of the engine) looks like a 7M-GTE but you say its a normal aspirated 7M using wasted spark.

What is the reason for that? did you build up this motor out of different donors or did you take a 7M-GTE and removed the Turbo?

I see the motor has the throttle body direct onto the Plenum like the turbo motors and local Cressida versions of the 7M had. The 7M supra version like we buy from the engine importers has the long tubes in-between which is supposed to give extra power, but I doubt anyone with an after market ECU ever played with connecting the valve that varies the length of the tube according to RPM. That was one thing I still want to play with on mine.

One piece of advice I want to give you. A cone filter is a no no off road, so look at getting a cyclonic (original type) filter fitted before going into the dunes.

Also monitor the effect of the aircon on the engine temp when it gets hot outside. I am moving my condenser to under cab as Kaspaas' not due to space but rather heat dissipation issues. If the aircon works hard it generates a lot of heat that gets blown over the radiator and engine. Try fitting a digital water temp gauge as the meter on your dash is really not that accurate or quick to respond to fluctuations. I typically picked up a sudden rise in temperature if I was driving on the highway and turned off to a normal road without switching off the aircon 2 or so kms prior to slowing down.

I stuck with the original gearbox. So far so good!

As for the alu rad, got it from a friend for 1K. He installed a big block Chevy V8 in his Landy, but this rad was not good enough. Works for the 7M so far. Must admit it's still early days and I did'nt get stuck in traffic yet.

It's actually a long story. The motor I bought from Sump wat a red blooded 7M Cressida motor. The guy who fitted the motor convinced me to go for the Phoenix 3D management system. Now this system works on the wasted spark principle aka Supra turbo. So we needed to fit the coilpack of the 7M-GTE as well as the cam covers to accomodate the coil pack.

Then we needed a CAS distributor, which is merely a small pickup feedback to the management system as you all would know. Because of the new cam covers, we replaced the intake system with the Supra's, complete with air intake temp sensor and all.

Oh and the red air filter? I walked passed it in AutoZone and it looked good at the time! :D: Seriously, I am going to fit the original Donalson ASAP. Can't stand the sucking noise. Sounds like a Jetta with holes drilled in the airbox.

Bottom line, this baby screams. Got this guy Andre in Vereeniging. Knows his stuff with Dictator, Mr Turbo, you name it. Given the choice, he will fit Phoenix 3D.

7mgte on its way to hitler..... so then i maght have to add the SS swasticka on the back for people to wonder whats under the hood......

Martin

Maak mooi jou sommetjies.

Ek dog jy sou Dicktator gebruik? Dicktator werk sonder Dizzy conversions na hall pick up net so op 'n 7MGE dizzy.

As jy niks sleep nie is dit nie n probleem nie.

7M-GE motor - R 4500
Alu Radiator - R 1500
Phoenix 3D - R 4500
Aircon pomp - R 1400 ( Op die see roes hulle vas)
Labor - R 7000
Nuwe headgasket + labor R 2990 (Roes op die see)
Clutch kit R R 2600
Aircon pype + gas + installasie R 1950
Service kit - R 800
dit en dat - R 2000
Longrange tank - R 3800 want 45 liter bring jou nie ver nie.
Elektriese petrol pomp + installasie- R 760

http://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/sho ... hp?t=21089
