A-frame... om 'n alternator gefix te kry

Ek het dit al oorweeg maar dit is nie die geval nou hier nie. Die bakkie gaan in vir 'n alternator conversion en dit maak dit net logistiek makliker om die Atos agterna te sleep :)

Hulle bou 'n nuwe een in. Ek vermoed dit is iets soos 'n Nippen Denso. Ek gaan net vir die alternator conversion. As ek R1250 meer gehaad het, het ek vir die full kit gegaan wat 'n DC welder insluit wat in die bakkie gemonteer word.ToyX4 wrote:Het jy nie n roofrack nie?

Ja jy sien nê.. so leer mens 'n paar dinge soos mens ouer word. Hier is die verloop van sake....
Laas naweek toe toets ek mos nou die voltage op ma battery terwyl die bakkie idle. Kry net 12.5v. Daai is mos te laag. Koppel toe 'n ekstra kabel op die positief van die alternator na die positief van die battery. Toets... kry nou 12.7v. Daai is ook mos te laag. Koppel 'n earth draad tussen die body van die alternator en die negatief van die battery. Kry nog steeds net 12.7v. Fine... klim in my kar gaan koop 'n genuine Bosh regulator. Strip die alterator uit saam met die lug filter en belly plate anders kry mens nie die alternator uit nie. Sit die nuwe Bosh regulator in.... start hom en toets.... 12.5v. Koppel weer die ekstra drade en kry 12.7v
Okay.. strip hom maar weer uit en maak plan om die alternator te laat service. Vat hom in en laat hom diens en gaan haal hom die volgende dag. Kostes tot nou toe... R180 vir regulator en R540 vir die alternator service. Spring vroeg oggend weg (ek het die radiator ook laat diens die week en moes hom gou weer terug sit voor ek verder kan toets op die alternator). Sit die alternator in koppel hom op en start die bakkie. Toets..... :x :x 12.7v Strip die alternator uit, vervang die regulator met die ou een en sit die alternator terug. Start die bakkie en toets... 12.7v....
Koppel weer ekstra kabels op en toets... 12.7v. Okay nou al wat nie kan lekker wees nie is die battery.
Trek af plak toe en klim in die bakkie en ry gou na die battery shop toe. Verduidelik toe vir die ou daar wat gaan vir wat en wat het ek als getoets. Trek die bakkie daar in die shop... toets die battery.. die battery is 100%. Start die bakkie en toets die charging voltage... 13.76v :wth:
So wat probeer ek nou eintlik se... 'n 16jaar oue multimeter moet dalk weer sometime gekalibreer word :shifty: :shifty:
Epilog... strip toe weer die alternator uit en sit die Bosh regulator terug. At least weet ek nou die charging circuit is 100%

Cassie... I'm going to rattle your cage... heehee... did you know 13.7V is a little low... you should be aiming for 14.2-14.4V with modern batteries... you may want to consider the diode mod on the regulator negative...

Okay so I went on a hunt in my garage for old power supplies and my old drawer system I used for electrical components and found diodes I could use. Tested the voltage drop and it is about 0.5V
Okay so I did what the article Mr_B pointed me too said one should do and here is the result. (I am testing on the old non-Bosh regulator I took out)
I now just have to make some time to fit it to the bakkie and test

Jy sien mens wil mos net gou 'n paar goedjies reg maak voor mens die laaang pad vat wat mens nog altyd geweet het van maar mee saam gelewe het. Omdat ons 'n redelike lang stretch in die donker gaan ry toe dog ek laat ek maar die alternator ens na gaan.... en die res van die storie ken julle

Thanks Bretton.. you rattle the cage and the result is just perfect. My Silver Calcium battery shouts with joy
So after the mod of the regulator and installing it in the alternator:
Charging before 13.7v
Charging after 14.7 to 14.8v
Voltage at headlights before 12.5v
Voltage at headlights after 13.5v
So all the work was not in vane :)
PS: I used an analogue voltage meter in stead of my multimeter

I actually went and read about the battery a bit and it seems the Silver Calcium batteries nominal charge voltage is between 14.6v and 14.8v
Went for a drive and all is running perfect. I did not feel the battery afterwards but will do that before taking on the long road

Cassie, judging by your photo I assume for the diode mod you have to cut out a small section of the VR negative/ground 'lead' in order to solder the diode in place in series??
