Good tyres for 3.0 D4D S/C
Guys,
I have recently fittted 4 new Bridgestone Deuler A/T 31x10,5 R15 LT's on my Raider. The original Bridgestone Deuler HT's withstood 73 000kms of abuse and would have made it to 80k kms. The new tyres are great - slightly more road noise though, but no wine. Also makes the Raider suck even more juice - I now get @ 570kms on a tank instead of 650kms... quite a difference. BUT, it has to be said that these 31X10,5's are massive and look good on the Lux - fills up them wheel arches nicely and looks beefy. I have now covered 7 000kms with them over the last 3 weeks and I will fit them again. Off road handling is fantastic and is much softer - it actually feels like a different front suspension alltogether. Did some wet muddy roads this weekend at high speed - excellent! Onroad is also much more comfortable and Grip is also great.
Now I just need to give that front-end a lift...

Thank you for this post. A lot of people write of the Bridgestone Dueler H/T tyres, saying that they will not do more than 50,000km. But 73,000, wow, that is great!

The AT = the D694's?
A very good tyre in my opinion.

Good to know, thanks!
How do I search for topics on different tyres, their advantages and disadvantages in this forum. Simply typing in "tyres" in search bar on bottom of page didn't work....

Great info op bande. Verlede maand was oor AT's, hierdie maand is MT's.

Re: Good tyres for 3.0 D4D S/C
These tyres ( the 31x10.5x15's) lasted me 76 000kms - and were good for another 5 000kms. Had I not rotated, it would have been a diff story.
However, I became gatvol of these tyres as they are in fact too big and heavy IMO. And the more they wore, the more they wined.
I eventually realised these high profilers made the rims look even smaller in diameter - ie, a donut.
At 148 000kms I fitted the same A/T - BUT, in 265/70/15. Now this is a much better tyre IMO, as it is still nice and wide but the ruts in the road don't grab them due to the rounded edges of the tyres. Also very quite compared to the oversized version. They also fill the wheel arches nicely.
This time around I decided not to rotate because each time I have that done the damn vehicle pulls to the left - and no matter how you set wheel alignment - it keeps pulling left. This has happenned to me with many diff vehicles, and with the current set of tyres I decided that I will replace 2 at a time as needed - and never put backs on front again.
Consequently, with these tyres after 37 000kms (total vehicle mileage 185 000kms), the rears have at most another 5 000kms in them - while the fronts have another 40k kms in them.
And I will stick to this size in Dueler.
Hierdie 3 liters vreet agter bande!

So a "taller" sidewall is no good in your oppinion - if you prefer 265/70 R15 vs 265/75 R15. How big a difference does the tread (section width) width make - ex 255 vs 265?

Re: Good tyres for 3.0 D4D S/C
Sorry Maverick... haven't checked this forum in a while.
The diff from 255 to 265, to me, is purely aesthetic. As it is, those 15 inchers with the std Dueler HT's, look a bit lost in them huge wheel arches. The 265/70/15 looks great. Also, I couldn't find any other brand in that size.
I've just fitted 2 new to the front and moved the fronts to back - they should give me another 25k kms.
I feel the higher profile of the 31x10,5 is a bit overboard - in my application, anyways.
