RECOVERY POINTS

Post by mytruck »

Hi all
Being new to the 4x4 game this site has given me so much info/tips and reading pleasure and would like to say thanks to all who respond so efficiently. Need some help on this one. I have a 2009 Hilux 4x4 Raider. I have read that when towing or trying to recover a vehicle with a rope/strap or winch that there are strategic "Recovery" points that one should use. Great but am not sure where they are. Checked the manual and am sure that the ones on the front are the ones to use, but what about on the rear of the vehicle. Forum has advised using the towbar is a big no no, which I can understand. So do I have have these fitted as an aftermarket thing or am I just blind -

Ideally recovery points must be directly on the chassis and in line with the chassis.

Usually fitted after market direct to chassis or to a sturdy bracket which is fitted to the chassis. Most integrated bumpers / bullbars / towbars will have recovery points built in.

Just wondering...if I were to fit recovery hooks to the chassis in the rear, can I slip the bridal strap between the valence & towbar seeing that the chassis is higher than the towbar?

You could do that Stefan, but make sure that when the bridle pulls tight, it wont damage the valance. You must also make sure there are no "sharp" edges that could damage the bridle strap.

Saw that one yes, any issues with bending upwards? Will it be legal for the AAWDC fun day?

More like what I want, trick is to mount them to the SFA's rear :problem:

Thought of that, but I guees one could damage the valence with the strap under the towbar as well, although there is that gap between the two that gives one some leeway.

I welded a piece if flat bar on the two bar bracket, underneath the chassis. This prevent the tow bar from moving upwards when you use it

As jy so ver wil gaan sou ek sê jy moet braces oorkruis insit maw van chassis links na t/bar regs

Manne, bietjie hulp asb.
