Hilux Club vinyl stickers

Post by SWARTLUX »

Who would be interested in a custom made vinly for our very own hilux4x4 club?

I was thinking in the line of what the Mc Carthy 4x4 has on their bakkies but the wording and design would differ from it.

Here is the pics so you can get an idea of what I mean

And this is how it should fit on the 4x4

Cassie, you need to perhaps move that to the space on the load bin, between the rear wheel arch & rear bumper.

I'm not quite sure what you guys are trying to achieve here, but personally I'm not in favour of custom club stickers. As a club we already have a logo and that's what I feel we should use ... we also have a forum logo that's very similar. They're recognizable at a glance and if we come across another vehicle with a custom design, we might not recognise the vehicle as a forum / club member. If the intention is to re-think the logos and uniformly supply new logo stickers in future, I have no problem with that. I would also not have a problem with a uniform banner type sticker in addition to the existing oval one, so that the guys who want to decorate the side of their vehicles can do so.

Ok, seems I have tasked myself with making a sticker artwork. No problem. I just want to make sure that I get it right.

It should incorporate :

The standard HILUX4x4 Logo.
The Website Address
The wording HILUX 4x4 CLUB

Let me chuck a rough concept together, and then I can do the custom artwork around it ... If everyone is OK with that. I would like a higher res artwork of the logo if possible.

Here are three concept layouts for feedback.

Country scene commic book style with black outlines

Trailing banner

Numberplate

I can do pretty much anything with graphics and fonts, as long as I know what sort of basic layout you like.

In my humble opinion, Of the 3 I prefer the trailing banner first then the numberplate. The first one has too much detail in it..

Sure. Can do that, just want to be sure that I am working with the correct format before spending maaaaannnyyy hours on the final artwork. Dont worry, it will look good. It needs to be done in ultra high res so that the big print looks good at arms length.

I was thinking of making it look like someone rolled a wet / muddy tyre in 3d, with drips running down. Can be done in grey, brown, red ... charcoal, whatever.

Tread pattern can be busy

Or less busy

Finer detail, coarser detail, etc etc, wider, narrower ...

What dimension are we looking at for the top of the windscreen? Width/height ratio?

I would make it about 110mm high and a fraction wider than the widest Hilux windscreen with a central logo of 50 / 60 mm that is positioned about 10mm off the bottom. Reason for this is that the sticker curves with the screen when fitted, curving up at the ends making the centre the widest part .... fitting can then be done so that the sticker overlaps the rubber seal by the same distance on each side, ensuring central fitting ... should also overlap the rubber seal on top a little in the centre (and more towards the sides) which can then be trimmed so that the sticker fits the shield perfectly from edge to edge.

However, at the risk of repeating myself, this customising of club / forum logos should first be sanctioned by the owner of the forum (Pieter) and the club committee. There may not be a copyright on the logo / domain, but first submitting the idea for approval would be the right way to go. ;-)

Let me be the voice of reason.

Those are the McCarthy group owned vehicles. That is the only reason why they look so garish.

Please remember we are not a school gang, and do not have meetings in treehouses. There are some things to keep in mind with regards to such a venture.

1. We are a registered club
2. There is intellectual property with regards to Hilux4x4

So before you go too far down the road with something that has good potential (good or bad), you need to follow procedure and discuss the matter with the owner of the forum, and the management of the club.

No intent to be naaf. But that is what you need to remember.
Would be sad to spend a couple of 100 rands on a sticker, and then you cannot do it.

An interesting dynamic here. And I see it in other clubs to varying degrees. I would however like to cast light on some issues.

Among the members of any club you get the administrators, the conformists and the individualists. It is a long standing phenomena that the individualists are the ones that take the initiative and drive progressive thinking in the group. One of the ways in which this manifests itself is in art. This is as valid today as it was on the day that the first caveman drew stripes on his face.

Now in a club wherethe emphasis is placed on individual expression through the medium of the vehicle/s that we drive, this individualism is expressed through customisation, paintwork and ... here we land on the point of contention ... decoration.

Now, personalyy I see no problem with the desire to have a decoration that exhibits a loyalty to an organisation. It is no different to a hells angel creating an embelished tatoo incorporating a clear statement of afiliation. No hells angel will take him to task. You could say the same for the US marine core or any other organisation , and these guys take their 'colors' and emblems seriously. Embilshment through the medium of art is however commonly accepted practice ... as long as it is not offensive ... and even there a degree of leeway is allowed.

Now, seeing as this is a matter between club members, for club memebers, and does not involve any external financial beneficiaries, and unless specifically covered, restricted or prohibited in the constitution, I see absolutely no problem in an initiative that will improve the perception and standing of the club... not to mention enhancing the level of pride that a member would have in their vehicle (and club)

It is my feeling that one should be careful about pouring cold water too liberally on spontaneous inititives by club members, because i can assure you, that if ever single fresh idea has to wait for the next AGM, there wont be any fresh ideas and the club will just end up stagnating.

So, my personal opinion is that is somoene does something that is not in direct contravention of the constitution or rules of membership, and it does not offend any of the members, then maybe one should just sit back and let whoever wants to take the initiative, get on with it.

And so, this process is open, and transparent and input is welcomed. But, being rather new to this forum, and not wanting to get too involved in club issues, I will sit back and see if we get a definitve yes or no from the powers that be.

Mike, ek dink jou ontwerp sover lyk baie goed

We might be able to change the tyre tread and writing color to accomodate each vehicle but will confirm.
Myself and SKRIK NIKS want the sticker sideways over 2 doors so this will be have to made big enough for that (Jan please confirm if this is the design you like aswell)

Please give your inputs regarding the sticker/Banner.

Cassie will you be able to take this image and photoshop it onto one of our van so we can see what it will look like? :beg:

be aware of this....

I tried the green writing on black tracks before... it doesnt work. the lettering needs to be outlined and not directly applied to the tracks. Which turns the tracks into a series of dots/splotches...

This is what I did for the boot camp...

Groot asb.

Kan ons dalk daai

I think the way to do this is to layer the sticker with various artwork options. That way I can give you a comboof various tread patterns, texts and logos and styles, then you decide how you want to mix and match. Once the bas artwork is done, the mix and match becomes quite easy. We can then place the various artwork 'layers' on the site, and you can create your own sticker.

I spent today working on the chrome tread. Here are some options. It is a manufactured (ie, I made it) tread pattern in 3D with a chrome layer and a couple of various reflective backdrops to color in the chrome.

(White is transparent)

Image
Chrome sunset

Image
Chrome country

Image
Chrome desert

Image
Chrome namib coast

So, what you can do now is stretch this out as long as you like. If you want 4 x length, You print out 4 stickers, then you take the first one of each sticker, then the second one of each and then the third and so on for as wide as you like. You can also then lay them out in a straight line or a curve.

I can also do the chrome tread around a tyre and I can do the tread in rubber, plastic, mud, lava, coals, whatever texture takes your fancy.

Next up I will work on the text logo, and then you can do that in chrome, plastic, wood, rubber , fire, coals whatever. That whay you can have a (whatever format you like) text logo on top of a (whatever format you like) tread pattern.

I will also do the logo flat or wrapped around a tyre so both options are available.

That then gives you the freedome to mix, match and layout patterns and logo's to suit you own colors and rquirements.

There is no charge for this artwork, consider it a bit of fun and my contribution to the club.

In fact, I can use any image to 'color' the chrome, even a picture of your vehicle

Asook uitvind watter sizes die ander lede wil he?

Ja , Brian , plat en nie geboog nie

Yes, Cassie daai is 100%.

My SFA bakkie is rooi met alle ekstras in swart.

Waar daar 'n wil is, is daar 'n weg.

Groete. :beach: :beach: :beach:
