150k service on 4.0 V6 Hilux

Post by oxydog »

Anyone have an idea of how much the agents will charge me for a standard 150 000 km service on a 2006 4.0 V6 4x4 D/Cab?

Besides the normal service, you will also have to replace the timing belt, not sure what they charge......

They quoted me R 900 odd - this will surely not include the T-belt? Why wouldn't they include that in the quote?

If it's a Toyota dealer they probably don't know that the T-belt needs changing!

Hi guys.....

The V6 engine have a Timing Chain and not a belt, so no need replacing it before it is nessisary...... keep on using good oil and you will be OK....

OK, I'll trust them to let me know whether or not it is necessary. It's at a Barloworld branch with a good reputation, so I'm hoping for honest service.

I don't know when they change the chain, (Toyota SA must help out here....) but it is not a belt that will snap..... What I could find out about it is you only replace it when you open the motor for rebuilding......

Word on the interwebs is that the 4L V6 timing chain is engineered to have a 250,000 mile lifespan.

But, I've heard guys say change it when it gets noisy.

Chain only gets changed if the motor is opened for some reason and not specifically just for the chain. A customer here in el has 467000km on his 4.0 v6 and motor never been opened yet.

Hi. My 4.0l v6 was nou vir sy 150 000km diens en het my R1200 gekos. Die time belt word aan gewerk op 180 000 km.
