33's vs diff ratio change?

Post by zepplin »

To the boffins out there - what will give me a lower ratio, 33's or change diff ratios to x? Currently my Lux with the 5VZ is running 31's with 4.88 diffs and sitting at 3200rpm at 110 but want to bring the revs down a bit, preferably around 2800@110.

You already have a suspension upgrade so that should give you enough clearance for 33's ..... and you've already done the axle shift too. Rather leave the diffs as they are ..... the bigger wheels will give you more benefit off-road and it's cheaper than replacing both diffs. The 33's will help but I don't think they'll bring the revs down too much though.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

3200*31/33 = 3006 rpm. The diff ratio you would need is 2800/3200*4.88 = 4.27 or closest.
I agree about going to 33's, they just look better.

PS : 33" muds + 4.55 ratios will give you 2802 rpm :boss:

Thanks Jano. What revs will 33's & 4.88 get me to?

Stu, I think you might have 4.55 diffs in that older model of yours. How is it running anyhow?

The 2.8d's was the only SFA's that had 4.55 ratios, all the other SFA's from '79 to '99 were 4.875

If you have import difs, there is complete 4.3 centres available for about R4000 brand new each
