28th July Tierkloof 4x4...
The next 4x4 trail we will be driving is Tierkloof 4x4... For further information about the trail here is the link to Drive out's feature of the trail
http://www.driveout.co.za/4x4/trails/tierkloof-4x4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The cost for driving the trail is R100 per vehcile and R20 per person in the vehicle.... The trail will be trickier than the one we drove last week and includes both rocky and sand sections...
The route is 12 km long and can take from 2.5 hours depending on the size of the group and the experience of the drivers...
They recommend a group not larger than 15 to 18 vehicles at a stretch. so if we have more than that we will divide the group and let the second group leave an hour after the first lot so that there is better flow..... And if need be even 3 groups...
We also have an opportunity to camp the weekend at a place nearby that has been recommended by one of our members... Apparently a lekker kuierplek, with a communal kuier area, kitchen, bar area, electrical plug points and lots of space. The bonus of the camping place is that we literally only need to decide that week, depending on the weather, if we want to camp or not...
With it being so close to Cape Town the camping facility will be for the Friday and Saturday night... So close to Tierkloof to get to the trail early and then a good place to kuier and not have to drive home until the next day... As I said the camping option need only be implemented if the weather is going to be good...

Hi Matthieu... We have'nt finalised the arrangements for August yet, but here is a link to the events we have planned for August... We will definitely be having a get together or two, so just keep active on the forum and you will see them come up... It will be wonderful if you could join us on a trail or weekend... It is always good to meet people who's names become familiar to us... What dates will you be in South Africa?african dust wrote:HI Val, sorry to hijack thread but are there any trips planned for August. Name's on Boetie... hope we get to see you and JC again that weekend (just love that kid of yours to bits)... still lots of time to budget... Camping will work out at R70 per person per night, JC there is no charge...truckin wrote:Hi Val..

Tertius, you obviously won't be able to bring everyone on the trail... but if we land up camping, bring them camping, it will keep your house tidy for the weekend... No worries, see you at the next GTG....

On my calendar that weekend is free. So unless something serious pops up, I think we'll come along and stretch the Ford's legs a little in the rocks..

its a nice trail, very rocky, steep descent on the back half also, some very loose marbly sections on the way up also with plenty of Cross axle work.., campsite is basic but clean, stunning views of Brandvlei, toilets/showers are clean with hot water......Johannes van die See wrote:Ek sit voorlopig my naam op, dalk is my diff upgrades klaar en ek sal die lorie moet toets voor die RTH trip.

Re: 28th July Tierkloof 4x4...
Stubs we won't be camping at Tierkloof, Wilko has a buddy with a farm nearby that has a comunal camping facility that he allows groups to hire for the weekend... It has better camping facilities as well as really good kuier facility it is focused on group functions.....Stubs wrote:its a nice trail, very rocky, steep descent on the back half also, some very loose marbly sections on the way up also with plenty of Cross axle work.., campsite is basic but clean, stunning views of Brandvlei, toilets/showers are clean with hot water......Johannes van die See wrote:Ek sit voorlopig my naam op, dalk is my diff upgrades klaar en ek sal die lorie moet toets voor die RTH trip.

Stu if there are enough of us to camp to cover the costs of 'Watergat' then we will do a comunal camping weekend... If it is only 2 or 3 of us to camp then we can camp at Tierkloof... We need to have 9 adults for 2 nights to cover the costs of staying at Watergat...,Stubs wrote:ok, cool, so I can still camp Friday/Saturday.....will we meet @ the farm or @ the Trail Campsite ??

The recommendation for the trail is 15 - 18 vehicles... The list exceeds this so far, but I am going to continue adding names, because if we have more than they recommend, we can go in two groups with the one group leaving earllier and the next group 2 hours later... Also what happens is that closer to the time some may not be able to make it due to unforseen circumstances... so those that want to attend, you are all still welcome.

Okay Ross, you're on the list
28th July Tierkloof 4x4...
The next 4x4 trail we will be driving is Tierkloof 4x4... For further information about the trail here is the link to Drive out's feature of the trail
http://www.driveout.co.za/4x4/trails/tierkloof-4x4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Re: 28th July Tierkloof 4x4...
I'm going to be away in Zim for 2 weeks with my Hilux and friends, so won't be active on the forum, but back well in time to make all the final arrangements for the trail and if weather allows the camping weekend... Looking foward to the trail on the 28th, also hope the weather is good enough for us to make a weekend of it... Keep yourselves and your vehicles happy and healthy and see you all again soon...

Re: 28th July Tierkloof 4x4...
Hi,
I'm almost back.... got as far as Joburg, and leave for C Town on Monday morning and back in CTown on Tuesday...
2 weeks to the GTG, hope by that time the cold, wet weather is over and we have some stunning weather so we can camp and have a good catch up...

Re: 28th July Tierkloof 4x4...
Hi guys and Val, unfortunately I think it would be wise for me to pull out of this one, might have a problem with my clutch and Alan's gonna have a look at it end of this week.
So enjoy but for now I'm out.

No no dude... it's not so easy to get out... if Alan's looking at it this week, then it'll be fixed long before the 28th!ismail wrote:Hi guys and Val, unfortunately I think it would be wise for me to pull out of this one, might have a problem with my clutch and Alan's gonna have a look at it end of this week.

Hey All
I will have to sit this one out also. Looks like July is not a good month for 2.7.
