OK so I have had one of these http://www.4x4direct.co.za/shop/index.p ... cts_id=185" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and these http://www.4x4direct.co.za/shop/index.p ... cts_id=108" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; lying around for quite some time
Fitted it once onto the Roof Rack but the light is way to powerful / bright :!:
On our recent trip to Gonarezhou the LED strips did not do it for us. Yes, provides light around the vehicle but not at the table while making food and eating....
This weekend at the Bridgestone Fundi we were up at sparrows 04h30 and at out designated point at 05h30.....cold and dark and pretty miserable, I may add.
So it was time to sort out this camp light thing First of all my initial plan was to use an extendable tent pole, but that would be way to short.
On a shopping spree Francisco caled me (as I had asked him about my plan) to look for a light (alu) extendable pole!
He called me on Sunday and advised me that he had found exactly what I was looking for

As I was saying......
I was looking for something light, portable easy to set up
Firstly, I had to figure out where the pole should be mounted? Simple, on the front of my replacement bumper :wink2: (always wondered what the little hole was for..... ) So I needed a mounting bracket and within no time I found an old Alu torch somewhere in my garage that would be perfert for the job!
So I stripped it .... Drilled a nice fat hole to secure the base.
And mounted the back end onto the front bumper !

Nice idea, Mark, and with that height the light should pool nicely anywhere you direct it around the truck. Camping spots under trees might hinder the extension though.

Correct, trees may be a problem, hence the 10m extra cable to move it atound should the need arise.Mud Dog wrote:Extendable 'long-drop' !GeorgeJvR wrote:Smaak my OOOMS like lang goet

The 'joint' on the pole works very well and easy to operateMr_B wrote:Geesh that's high... hasn't traffic control at Lanseria airport complained yet?
I'm going to do something similar... I'll probably mount it on the roof rack with a drop in type fitting...

The work light used 27 watt.
Die paal is verbasend stewig

Now I am sure you have to have some danger or hazard stickers on that pole.... or maybe just paint it with stripes or polka dots... no seriously Mark! what happens if that thing falls down in some high wind at a campsite... think you have to have a large perimeter around your vehicle so that you don't take out your fellow travellers and their vehicles...

If that pole is hollow right trough, you can always poor soft sand into the pipe filling it. This will make it much stronger in heavy winds

Mark did you deliberately put it on the bullbar so that nobody can dance around it?

Re: Serious ........... Work light - 5m!
Mark that is one mean light.
However just a question.
Why do people insist on going to a remote destination and trash the place with pollution and by that I mean loud music, litter and light? Don't we all go the remote places to get away from things like that?
Your light is great, but to use it where others just want to get away from it is selfish. I'm not saying you are selfish, I'm saying that people are often inconsiderate when it comes to this. Essentially noise pollution and light pollution are the same. Both show no regard for other who are trying to enjoy the peace and darkness. etc.
I trust when you use your light when camping you will take this factor into account.
However just a question.

Just because it says "4WD" doesn't make it an off-road vehicle.

Obviously.....and I would be the first to complain about a noisy neighbour or bright light!!!Mountain Man wrote:Mark that is one mean light.

This is a work light, when we make supper in the bush and may be used @ the Bridgestone Fundi like the past weekend, could come in handy
We seldom camp where others camp, but will only be used when required :wink2:
