Fuel Price Increase (5 Sept 2012)!!!

Post by Royco »

The petrol price will go up by 93c/l next Wednesday, while diesel will cost 69c/l more.

The steep 8.4% increase that kicks in at midnight on 5 September is to partly to finance wage increases for pump attendants at garages, the energy department said on Friday.

The latest shock hike brings the price of 95 grade petrol in the inland commercial region of Gauteng to R11.97 a litre and R11.62 at the coast.

The wholesale diesel price will also go up by about 6.7% to R10.95.

This latest petrol increase is also the result of rising oil prices, which have been pushed higher by supply issues and improved consumer confidence in the US.

So they blame rising oil prices and a weaker rand

Does anyone have the stats on this?

ie: what the Rand / $ rate and crude oil price was at each increase and decrease this year.

It doesnt se4em to rise and lower accordingly to me, I could be wrong

I fully agree, the R$ has not been that bad.
Although Brent Crude has increased, but also not by that much!

But also looks like we are paying for the wage increases:

BULLSH!T!!!!

Lets say 40c/L goes for the attendants.
Average 50L fuel tank = R20.
3 tanks filled per hour = R60x 8 hour shift = R480 extra per shift!

R480 x 20 workdays = R9600.

Nice salary increase for a pump attendant!!!!

I might consider changing career if that is the kind of increases you can get...

its not a proper scientific, however a half measure at how the function of oil and rand affect what we pay at the pumps

This latest petrol increase is also the result of rising oil prices, which have been pushed higher by supply issues and improved consumer confidence in the US.However, the majority of the increase will go towards Jacob Zuma's 7th wedding ceremony, as well as the maintenance of the further 327 illegitemate children he fathered this year. A small percentage will also go to Julius Malema in order to shut him up and allow him to finish his R16 million house in Sandhurst...

The actual increase in margin for retailers to honor the wage agreement is3.5 cpl. That's it! None of it goes to retailers as a margin increase!
