Re: Flower season
Great idea
How about the 13th of August for this trip guys? Long enough notice and time for everyone to plan accordingly and not too far off in the future for everyone to forget?

You can do a day trip, but the only thing you are going to do all day is drive.. Plus it is still a bit early now, you need to go late August/early Sept.

Re: Flower season
Last year this time the West Coast was covered in flowers, this years there are hardly any flowers.
Seems like the succulents and bulbs are flowering in little bits, but the soft flowers are hardly visible. Even those bunches of Arum lilies between Darling and Malmesbury are not there this year.
I heard that closer to Kammieskroon there are some (non confirmed) and then the guys from Enjo Life in Biedou valley said the flowers will open after another rain but nothing yet.
It seems like it will be a very empty flowering season

Re: Flower season
Over the weekend the world around here changed dramatically. All of the sudden there are white flowers coming out everywhere.
The areas on your way to Saldanha and the areas around Saldanha steel are almost covered in white flowers.
The past two days Long Acres and Oliphantskop also started to get flowers and I think within a day or two Oliphantskop will be covered in white again.
So for those who want to come to the southern part of the West Coast, seems like the flowers are eventually sticking out their necks now.

Re: Flower season
Gewoonlik kan mens sien hoe hy verkleur as daar baie blomme is.

There are plenty of flowers on the West Coast.
Seems like we will have good weather over the weekend
I attached the tourism office's flower report below so you can see where to see flowers

Re: Flower season
We went to Postberg today and it was well worth the trip.
The last time I saw so many flowers was in 2007. I think this year there are even more flowers than 2007.
Here are some pictures to wet your apatite
The picture below was sommer taken between the houses in Myburgh Park in Langebaan
The next two pictures were taken as you go down the hill on the Shark Bay side on your way to the northern entrance to the West Coast National Park
The picture below was taken in the Postberg side of the park
NO, IT IS NOT SNOW!
Plankiesbaai - you can also stop here for a picnic or braai
Some strange creatures I stumbled upon in the park.
The next two pictures illustrate the importance of taking flower pictures from the right side. I photographed the same area, just from different sides. Picture one was towards the sun and picture 2 was with the sun behind me. Sometimes you drive on a road and think there ain't any flowers, but when you look in your rear view mirror it is a total different story
