Skateboarder trips speed camera down Kloofnek

Post by Hoppy »

Capetonians are up in arms over a reckless skateboarder that managed over 70km/h down Kloofnek drive, i think it's quite an achievement, wish i was 30 years younger

Allan on the one hand I do understand the "outcry" ...

BUT, I am still young enough to remember the "stuff" I got up to ..........

"adults" complain about a guy on a skateboard. Parents complain about a kid having to do athletics in "summer heat" ...... WHAT sort of softies are we raising ....

I really don't think it was that irresponsible, as is clear in the video, he is able to stop really fast and so was hardly in danger of crashing. He also keeps his lane (unlike the taxis that use that road...)
Happy trails

Yep, very much in control and obviously knows his board, but the board has infinitely more limitations than a vehicle and he has to depend almost entirely on his skill. An error in balance or judgement could have serious consequences. Then there's the unforeseen .... someone pulls out of a drive or crosses an intersection without seeing him, not to forget about the stupid things some reckless / thoughtless drivers do .............. and he has no protection. :eh:

So ja, while it's an impressive bit of boarding, it is nonetheless foolhardy IMO. ;-)
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

Last year a couple of guys were playing near Franschoek, I think they were using street luge boards. The one come around a blind turn and went head on into a truck !! DEAD !!!!!

And they still had the audacity to try and blame the truck driver !

What will they fine him for?

Speeding? nowhere does the law state that you need a speedo on a skateboard.

His "vehicle" doesn't have driven wheels, so he is classified as a pedestrian, so he has right of way.

He didn't endanger the lives of others.

What will he be guilty off, any suggestions?

They'll find something. Reckless endangerment? The moment he climbs on, the board becomes a vehicle being operated on a public road .... I'm sure they could think up a whole lot of charges.

:surrender: Sorry, but adrenalin and extreme sports does it for me, it is sad that some people die following there passion by doing extreme stuff, but even more sad seeing people get old without even trying something exciting and out of the box, dying of a heart attack infront of a TV, or being murdered and just added to statistics without anyone noticing. It's the crazy people like this who thinks they can make a difference in this world, and eventually they do.

Hierdie video "Spoofing the Cam" is natuurlik 'n sin speeling op Jebb Corliss se video "Grinding the Crack"

if you look very carefully at this video, he is so in control, from the moment he steps on and rolls off at the top, to the arms in the air and even looking around at the cameraman as the speed camera goes off. He keeps on his own side of the road, slows way down when the road goes into two lanes, for the first part of this if not most the only person he is gonna hurt is himself and thats the risk HE wants and does.....he even rides the skakeboard like a biker, if you look at the way he bends his knee out to take the corners, superbike riders do this to slow themselves down into the corners, whats the difference of a biker doing 180 on his R1, it doesnt make headline news, youtube, nothing, why ? because, he is riding a road legal licenced bike, helmet leathers.....who is the more dangerous......at the back end of Smitwinkels as you take the long downhill there past the Ostrich farm, I have hit 70kmh on my bicycle...whats the difference.... :boss:

so leave the guy alone, I would love to meet him.....agree with you 100 percent Hoppy....!!!! I think this Video will become legendary status if not already......I have friends and family back in the UK already asking me where and when this was and thinking we have to get to SA....brilliant !!! :cooldude: :cooldude: :bye:

Typical media
was recently filmed skating down the busy Kloof Nek road in Tamboerskloof,
What a joke. I would love to sit in court. Wonder how they will prove it was him on the skate board, unless he admited it.
Then with vehicle you have to write a license, no license needed for a skate board.

If it was me I would just deny that it was me in the video, they did not catch him red handed and he did not wear a number plate on his back.
