Hello from Mumbai(Bombay), India...
Hi All,
A cheery hello from Mumbai (Bombay), India.
I am a senior HR professional working in the big, bad corporate world !
I have been owning a Toyota Fortuner since Feb 2011 and have been having a delightful time with it.
(Read about my experience with Admiral here -
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-term ... sails.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
Stumbled on this forum while wandering about on the net looking for general information about the T-Fort.
Hoping to learn a lot from all the learned members here and contribute my learning as well, based on whatever little I know !
Aloha !
HG

Pleasure sir. Nice pic. Notice your Fortuner has Dunlop Grandtrek tyres. Are these standard fitment there on the subcontinent?Guderian wrote:Thank you very much for a warm welcome Andy, Cassie, Dylan, Tumelo, Roger, Neil, Imthiaz & Tiaan.

Re: Hello from Mumbai(Bombay), India...
1. Thank you Johan !
2. Dr Imthiaz - Yes the T-Forts (as we call them !)/Tunas (as called there !) in India come shod with the Dunlop Grandtek AT20 as the OE. They are the 265/65/R17s - Made in Japan.
However as we have been learning - for replacement the Dunlops are rather expensive and the other options available here are the Yoko - Geolandars. Offer good value for money, good grip on wet surfaces though the rubber is soft and the tyre life is low comparitively. But the biggest drawback the Yoko Geos have here in India is the weak sidewall. Many cases of tyre bursts. There are a few other local brands in the size in the AT category...
I am told the Yoko Geos in SA have reinforced sidewalls - is that right ?

How do you find the ride with the dunlops?
Our hiluxes and fortuners come standard with bridgestone D694 all terrains.
On my last fortuner i upgraded to continental cross contact all terrain and found the ride a bit firmer, but the handling of the fortuner was improved by a huge margin, on both wet and dry tar, with extremely impressive cornering speeds.

Re: Hello from Mumbai(Bombay), India...
Dr Imthiaz - The Dunlops are fairly decent. Good on tarmac and average in dry off road conditions. Fairly miserable in slush and muddy terains - gripwise.DocJ wrote: How do you find the ride with the dunlops?
Overall the ride quality is above average.
The Bridgestones that we get here in the Fortuner's size are the H/Ts types and would be absolutely useless in OTR conditions. I am not sure how soon will Bridgestone India be able to get A/Ts here as there is very little demand for them. The BS H/Ts are hard tyres to ride on, though they have fairly good life.
