Probeer Gaviscon.

Ok, so who have been able to stop and still not start again from this group that started quitting together. I am seriously going to try and quit. I have been smoking for about 42 years( yes started when i was 12) I have tried a few times and have never lasted very long always using some excuse or another to have a last one. But I think the time has come for me to really stop now. Any tips or things that could make it easier would be very much appreciated. I smoke less than 20 a day. but it is still too many.

Ek het al sooibrand vir so lank ek kan onthou, daar is sooibrand goed in al my voertuie, in my sak, by die huis etc.

Busting the Hubbly Bubbly Myth

Smoking waterpipes, also known as hookahs, narghiles, shisha, goza and hubbly bubbly, has become an increasingly popular pastime with young people, because it is seen as a fun way to socialise with friends. It is also viewed as less harmful than smoking cigarettes. Nothing could be further from the truth!

UCT Students help with Hookah Research

Recently the 4th year medical students from the University of Cape Town (UCT), did a research project on hookah smoking. The first part of the research focussed on investigating what constitutes hookah smoking. Students then further assisted CANSA to develop a health promotion campaign and hosted “The Hubbly Bubbly Awareness Day”. Students created a poster & posted info on social networking sites. Download “Hubbly Bubbly - Not So Lovely” Poster...

The medical students’ concluded that a lack of knowledge is the most crucial reason for the misconceptions and beliefs regarding hookah smoking and thus not realising how harmful it is to use. Read more...

Research in fact indicates that hookah smoking may be equivalent to or even worse than cigarette smoking. Read more...

Put this in Your Pipe and Smoke It!

Tobacco kills nearly six million people every year, of which more than 600 000 are non-smokers exposed to second-hand smoke
It is estimated that tobacco-related deaths will increase to more than eight million by 2030
Tobacco-related diseases (heart attacks, strokes, emphysema) kill over 44 000 South Africans annually
Cigarette smoke is responsible for a third of all cancers including 90% of lung cancer cases
What many people, smokers and non-smokers alike, may not know is that tobacco use increases the cancer risk for many other cancers in addition to that of lung cancers. These include the head and neck, (covering cancers of the oesophagus, larynx, tongue, salivary glands, lip, mouth, and pharynx), urinary bladder and kidneys, uterine cervix, breast, pancreas, and colon.

Cadaver’s Black Lungs Help Smokers Quit

Body Worlds & The Cycle of Life, the first anatomical exhibition of its kind to display real human remains, is unwittingly helping visitors kick the habit. This is thanks to a display that features the blackened lungs of a smoker in a side-by-side comparison with healthy lungs, making a strong impact on those who have yet to stub out.

Jenney and her Family's Journey with Smoking & Cancer

27 May 2013: Jenney decided to share her family's story with us in the hope that it will motivate someone to quit smoking:

"My Mom passed away in 2002 after a 6 month journey with lung cancer and matastic brain cancer. She had smoked for 42 yrs and she was only 61 yrs when she died.

Her sister died 2 years later after a very short journey with lung cancer, then Mom's brother passed away 4yrs after that also with lung cancer.

We lost our brother last year September at the age of 55, to bladder cancer which was smoking related.

(Nicotine is deposited in other parts of the body which becomes a catalyst for cancer to form). My cousin's son Brandon is an Oncologist and the Uncle who passed away was his Grandfather. Apparently this form of lung cancer is all smoking related and not genetic.

My mom wanted to stop so many times... The day she heard she had aggressive lung cancer, is the day she stopped smoking, she shed many tears wishing she had listened."

Let’s Close the TAPS
- Tobacco Advertising, Promotion & Sponsorships

Every year, on 31st May, the WHO and partners, like CANSA, mark World No Tobacco Day, highlighting the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocating for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption. The theme of this year’s campaign is "Ban tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship (TAPS)”

The WHO Framework Convention for Tobacco Control, adopted in May 2003, aims to curb tobacco-related deaths and diseases. South Africa is a signatory to the treaty and has taken measures through Tobacco Control Regulations to address the tobacco epidemic. South Africa is a leader in tobacco control in Africa and in 1999 banned all tobacco advertising and smoking in public places. As a result, cigarette consumption in SA has been reduced during the last eight years, while the percentage of adult smokers in the country has dropped from 32% to 28%. Unfortunately, the tobacco industry is now targeting women and the youth. Read about CANSA’s efforts with regards to Tobacco Control in SA...

My oplossing: ek het sulke lekker NARE pyp twak gekoop.
I feel a lot less wise at 45 than I did at 15.

Keep it up Tal..

I am smoking an E-Ciggie now. Been using it for almost a month now, and went from a pack a day to 1, maybe 2, cigarettes a week.. I like my "pipe".. and the flavours are cool!! Plus I get to mix the strength of the juice..

Now I still get my nicotine fix, without the other by-products... Eventually I will let that go as well, but for now I am using the crutch..

Hi Guys, quitting is easy. Here's how I did It.

Towards the end of November last year I ruptured the L5 disc in my back. The pain was so bad I didn't think I was dieing, I hoped I was. To cut a long story short they fused 3 discs / 4 vertibrae. That took 10 days and a bit of discomfort. I was home for a week then got clots in my lungs after smoking a couple of siggies. Back into hospital for another week and on blood thinners for 6 months. Confined to a hospital bed put a stop to my smoking. For some reason they won't let you light up in a hospital bed. Might burn the sheets or something. My mind told me that the clots were caused by the smoking. I know that's not true but I will ever smoking again for fear of clots and the associated Risks. i.e. Stroke, heart attack, embolism etc. My recovery has been long and uncomfortable (I don't use the word pain anymore) and is a long way from complete. But smoke again ....NEVER.

Good luck to all of you. Hope you quit the easy way, not like me.

Kobus emailed this book. I read it over a period of 2 months and could not get my mind set right on this quitting game. Have been thinking a lot in the last few weeks, last Saturday morning I just thought that enough is enough and threw it all away. It has been an interesting last 5 days to say the least. It has not been as difficult as I thought it would be, normally after 2 days I ended up buying more. My mind is in the right place at the moment and as I feel at the moment I will never be buying ciggies again.
That book is really good to read and all true.

Of mail my by kobusd at dgb dot co dot za .

En George sterkte glo my dis maklik

Kobus emailed this book. I read it over a period of 2 months and could not get my mind set right on this quitting game. Have been thinking a lot in the last few weeks, last Saturday morning I just thought that enough is enough and threw it all away. It has been an interesting last 5 days to say the least. It has not been as difficult as I thought it would be, normally after 2 days I ended up buying more. My mind is in the right place at the moment and as I feel at the moment I will never be buying ciggies again.
That book is really good to read and all true.
Who else has maybe been successful in stopping?
Roger
I smoke 60 ciggies a day. When i open my eyes in the morining i light my 1ste ciggie before i have my morning coffee. And in the evening i smoke my last ciggie in bed before i switch off the bed light.

If your mind is in the right place like yours you will win the fight.I just stop the smoking habit by saying it is for my own benefit to stop smoking.

I am now 14 yaers clean .

Good luck for you.

That is the truth.
I was smoking for 35 years, also 40 to 50 per day.
Stopped on 27 Feb. and i just ignore the cravings.

Why has nobody spoken about champix tablets. Don't you guys now what it is. 3 month course. Use it for 14 days while still smoking and on day 14 you just put it down or throw it away. I don't know how it works but it does. Been smoking 12 years. On day 14 I thought ok, I don't feel like a ciggy. Let's see how long this lasts. Day 17 I couldn't remember ever smoking. I didn't remember the taste, the feeling. I do however feel that something is missing if I stand and chat with someone or if I had a coffee, but no sudden craving. Look it up. Look up the reviews. It really works. 5 months clean and never looked back. My 2c.

Years ago I used Zyban tablets without any success. I think at the moment I am over the worst of the cravings because today it was as if I dont even remembering that I ever smoked. Feeling good and proud of myself. As Allen Carr said " It is good to be a ex smoker". :yahoo:

That stuff is bad. Seeing purple dragons and contemplating how to assassinate your mother in law. Nah ah, there's a reason Zyban is banned. That brought the worst out in people.
