only one solution - shin bone of a cow .... keeps a labby happy for 2 or 3 months at a time :)
they want to PLAY, and get borred EASILY, THEN they cause damage.
Until they get the hang of the shin bone, paint (spray) Jays fluid onto anything and everything they are not supposed to eat ..... mine had a liking for tail lights .... $$$$$ !!

Not so sure with this baby of mine. Gave him one of those hard hooves that you get at the pet shop for them to chew, he at the whole hard hoove up in two days including the one I gave to my other dogs. :evil:ChrisF wrote:only one solution - shin bone of a cow .... keeps a labby happy for 2 or 3 months at a time :)

Stick a few live wires under the bakkie for him to find, not 220v mains but stepped down to about 24v. He'll soon learn to leave wires alone ... if he doesn't you might find that one day while you're busy working with a power tool that he chews into a live extension cable when you're not looking. That'll be the end of him, so it might sound cruel but it could save his life and a lot of sorrow for you and the family.

Everyone told me a Labby is the best dog for children, so after my 12 year old Bull-Terrier passed, i bought a Labby, before she was 6 months old, i gave her to one of my workers and bought another Bully.

We got a the result of a jack russel loving a Basset(just a bit too much).
But the parents must have had relations with the devil at some time and i'm sure there is a terrorist in the family tree somewhere also.
Damage:
Trailer wires x3
Surround system wires(in braai area) x2
Hose pipe x4
Sprinklers x3
personally restored slat garden bench x4
So we decided to get a new fridge, old one went to the braai area( to keep warm stuff cold)
one morning I woke up to a strange cry followed by barking followed by another cry etc. etc.
Found devilschild biteing the extension cord(live) barking at its electrifying response and trying again...
Made myself a coffee and enjoyed the show.

Re: Weirdest or strangest stuff you have had to build at hom
Another friend's wife were taking a bath and reading a book on a leisurely Saturday morning, she heard something like running water, but ignored it, she heard it again and got up to investigate; the young Bullterrier dragged the sprinkler, fully open, into the living room and ran out to find something else to destroy!
The previous week, he jumped through their brand-new Corsa's window and chewed up the steering wheel, handbrake cover and gearlever knob (my type of dog, hates Opels).
He was passed on to a farmer who, i think, eventually shot him.
You get those unmanageables in any breed.

Must have had a neutral wire ... if it were the live his jaw would have cramped shut over the wire and he would have fried.

Re: Weirdest or strangest stuff you have had to build at hom
I am also a Bull Terrier fan.
But after my old female had to be put down (13 Years old) my wife in her wisdom desided to get anothe breed to try out.
Settled on an Irish Terrier....... Big mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!
List of stuff it destoyed include
Garden hose x 3
Netting over plants for winter x 8
my BMW R100S rear mudguard x 1 (1977 model and very hard to get spares for)
Pool cover x 1
Cactus plants x 6 (Thorns and all)
This is only the majour stuff it chewed.
This dog has me at wits end as even Cayen Pepper does not work.
This after I also have 2 Jack Russels and another Bull Terrier on my yard that only chew on the bike tyres I gave to them to play with...

go to your friendly local vet and buy Avert. its the most horrible stuff. stopped my wolfhound puppy chewing things. he loved bumpers and mudguards. (a tennis ball lasts about 5minutes in his mouth then it comes out in little bits.)
just a friendly warning, wash your hands very well about 5 times after spraying avert, otherwise even your beer will taste like the stuff

Doesn't always work. I had a Rhodesian Ridgeback that ate my electric fence wires. While they were live. After I repaired them, she came back for seconds.

Hmmmm .... depends how many kilojoules on the fence (energiser rating and voltage drops due to poor connections taken into account), and then don't forget that electrified fencing is energised with a high voltage, low amperage and intermittent pulse (non lethal). That said, some dogs are just stubborn in nature and will go back for more.
